Job Description Summary

The Control Systems Technician will monitor, maintain, adjust, and repair building automation control systems owned or leased by the Medical University of South Carolina to ensure safety, environmental control, and economy of mechanical, electrical, and systems. These control systems include, but are not limited to, HVAC equipment, Medical Gas, Fire and Smoke Control, and Electrical Distribution systems. The incumbent works at a control work station to monitor systems and in the field repairing, adjusting, and testing control systems as they interface with various equipment. The position is considered essential personnel in a disaster.

Responsibilities
  • 10% – Coordinates repairs and inspections with Energy Management Operator for proper shutdown and startup of air conditioning systems throughout campus.
  • 10% – Supervises and instructs technicians of lower grade. Briefs the supervisor of any problems that may affect proper operation of equipment.
  • 15% – Diagnose and repair heating and air as it pertains to the METASYS Systems. Uses proper tools and electrical meter.
  • 25% – Manually logs into Metasys when the system goes down to ensure the labs are running accurately. Recalibrates systems when needed, writes or rewrites any programs for the METASYS Systems, operates CCT when needed.
  • 35% – Monitors, maintains, adjusts, and repairs building automation control systems owned by the Medical University to ensure safety, environmental control, and economy of mechanical, electrical, and systems. Includes HVAC equipment, Medical Gas, Fire and Smoke Control, and Electrical Distribution systems. Works at a control work station to monitor systems and in the field repairing, adjusting, and testing control systems as they interface with various equipment. Considered essential personnel in a disaster.
  • 5% – Maintain work area and job site in clean and orderly manner and performs miscellaneous and related duties as required.
Qualifications

Education: High School Degree or Equivalent. Work Experience: 3 years.
