Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Control Systems Technician to monitor, maintain, adjust, and repair building automation systems across campus, including HVAC, Medical Gas, Fire and Smoke Control, and Electrical Distribution. You will work at a control workstation and in the field, providing essential support for safety and energy efficiency.

The role requires at least 3 years of experience and a high school diploma or equivalent, with hands-on METASYS experience and field

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate repairs and inspections with the Energy Management Operator for startup/shutdown of campus HVAC systems.
  • Supervise and instruct technicians of lower grade; brief supervisor on issues affecting equipment operation.
  • Diagnose and repair heating and air as it pertains to the METASYS systems using proper tools and electrical metering.
  • Manually log into Metasys when systems go down to ensure labs run accurately, recalibrate systems, and write or rewrite METASYS programs.
  • Monitor, maintain, adjust, and repair building automation control systems as described in the job summary.
  • Maintain work area and job site in a clean and orderly manner and perform miscellaneous duties as required.

Job Description Summary

The Control Systems Technician will monitor, maintain, adjust, and repair building automation control systems owned or leased by the Medical University of South Carolina to ensure safety, environmental control, and economic efficiency of mechanical, electrical, and system operations. These control systems include, but are not limited to, HVAC equipment, Medical Gas, Fire and Smoke Control, and Electrical Distribution systems. The incumbent will work on a rotating basis at a control work station to monitor systems and in the field to repair, adjust, and test control systems as they interface with various equipment. The position is considered essential personnel in a disaster.

Responsibilities
  • 10% – Coordinate repairs and inspections with the Energy Management Operator for proper shutdown and startup of air conditioning systems throughout campus.
  • 10% – Supervise and instruct technicians of lower grade. Brief the supervisor of any problems that may affect proper operation of equipment.
  • 15% – Diagnose and repair heating and air as it pertains to the METASYS Systems, using proper tools and electrical metering.
  • 25% – Manually log into Metasys when the system goes down to ensure labs are running accurately, recalibrate systems when needed, and write or rewrite any programs for the METASYS Systems. Operate CCT when required.
  • 35% – Perform monitoring, maintenance, adjustment, and repair of building automation control systems as described in the job summary.
  • 5% – Maintain work area and job site in a clean and orderly manner and perform miscellaneous and related duties as required.
