Job summary

HDR is seeking a Control Systems EIT/Designer to contribute to the design and execution of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems across client projects. The role involves selecting instrumentation, drafting construction documents, and developing PLC/HMI software for automated processes.

You will assist with testing and commissioning, while collaborating with engineers and technicians to meet project objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred for progression.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in design of complex SCADA systems.
  • Assist with selection and specification of instrumentation and network equipment.
  • Develop instrumentation and control construction documents.
  • Develop PLC and HMI software applications for automation.
  • Support system testing and commissioning activities.
  • Perform routine engineering assignments with standard techniques.
  • Work on small projects independently or assist senior engineers.
  • Provide direction to clerical and technical staff.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Control Systems EIT/Designer, we’ll count on you to:
  • Participate in the design of complex supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems
  • Assist with selection and specification of process instrumentation, control panels, and network equipment
  • Assist with development of biddable and technically accurate instrumentation and control system construction documents
  • Assist with the development of software applications for automation such as programmable logic controller (PLC) and human machine interface (HMI)
  • Assist with system testing and commissioning activities
  • Perform routine engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures
  • Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables.
  • Work independently on small projects, or assist more-senior engineers on larger projects
  • Give direction to clerical and technical personnel
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate
  • Candidates without their EIT will be called a Control Systems Designer and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must
