Job description

Overview

The Control Systems Design Lead provides advanced technical guidance and oversight within the design department, ensuring accurate execution of control systems throughout all project phases.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support project designers.
• Develop cost‑effective total project solutions for discipline design execution.
• Create estimates, schedules, staffing plans, and progress reports, including workforce forecasts.
• Participate in procurement, permitting, and subcontracting activities.
• Analyze complex design problems and recommend independent solutions aligned with organizational or project objectives.
• Review, check, or audit control systems design activities, including wiring, loop diagrams, 3D models, and drawings.
• Perform design calculations (e.g., wire sizing, conduit fill, voltage drop, junction box or panel sizing).
• Assign instrument installation details and conduct design reviews.
• Conduct field surveys as needed.
• Maintain advanced knowledge of Hexagon Smart® Instrumentation and Review software, 3D modeling tools, control systems, and relevant design guides.
• Apply expertise in 2D CAD, 3D systems, and P&ID representation for control systems.
• Utilize advanced computer and software skills, including word processing, email, spreadsheets, and presentation programs.

Qualifications

• Accredited two‑year degree (or equivalent) with twenty (20) years of work‑related experience, or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to twenty‑two (22) years for non‑degreed candidates.
• Effective communication with a range of audiences, including management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
• Job‑related technical knowledge for control systems design.
• Ability to learn and apply local, state, and federal statutes and guidelines.
• Attention to detail and ability to work efficiently within time constraints.
• Knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials.
• Practical field experience in control systems.
• Intermediate computer and software skills for word processing, email, spreadsheets, and presentations.
