Job summary

Hitachi Energy seeks engineers to develop interface and communication hardware for FACTS and HVDC projects within Grid Integration. You will help with drawings, PC/network configuration, design reviews, FAT/SAT, and site commissioning, connecting development with field execution.

You will support cybersecurity processes and ensure compliance, contributing to reliability and safety of grid infrastructure while gaining hands-on experience in advanced power transmission applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (Electrical/Controls preferred).
  • 2+ years with Industrial Control Systems, OT, automation, or software interacting with physical equipment.
  • 2+ years commissioning, FAT or SAT for industrial automation, control systems, or power systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop interface and communication hardware and software for FACTS and HVDC installations.
  • Create drawings supporting layouts and site designs.
  • Configure PCs from OS and network perspectives.
  • Participate in design reviews and project development activities.
  • Prepare documentation for created controls and support FAT, SAT, site commissioning.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and teams to resolve customer-related issues.
  • Support cybersecurity processes and project deliveries in line with standards.

Job description

In this role, you will support the development of control solutions for Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) and High Voltage DC (HVDC) projects within Hitachi Energy’s Grid Integration business. You will help develop interface and communication hardware and software solutions used in installations, while contributing to drawings, site layouts, PC and network configuration, design reviews, documentation, factory acceptance testing, and site commissioning. Your work will connect engineering development with field execution, helping projects move from design through delivery and startup. By supporting control development, communication networks, cybersecurity processes, and safe project execution, you will contribute to the reliability, safety, and performance of critical grid infrastructure while building hands-on experience in advanced power transmission applications.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Develop interface and communication hardware and software solutions for FACTS and HVDC installations.
  • Create drawings that support layouts and site designs.
  • Configure PCs from both an operating system and network perspective.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to project development activities.
  • Prepare detailed documentation to support created controls.
  • Take ownership of customer-related issues and drive them to completion with internal and external suppliers and team members.
  • Support factory acceptance testing, site construction, and commissioning activities for new projects.
  • Follow and implement cybersecurity processes and standards in projects, including support for cybersecurity services, reporting, and deliveries.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, preferably Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Operational Technology (OT), automation systems, or software integrated with physical equipment and industrial processes.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience performing commissioning, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), or Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities for industrial automation, control systems, power systems, or related equipment.
  • Experience with PLC programming, HMI development, SCADA systems, industrial automation platforms, and control system integration.
  • Experience developing, configuring, or supporting software and user interface components that communicate with industrial equipment and operational networks.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols and interfaces used in controls and automation environments.
  • Knowledge of network design and implementation fundamentals, including TCP/IP, domains, segmentation, virtualization technologies, and operating system administration.
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity approaches and tools, with the ability to apply sound judgment and problem-solving skills to address technical issues.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25%
