Job summary

PacifiCorp is seeking a Control Room Operator to monitor and control plant generating units from the control center, ensuring safe, efficient and continuous electricity production under supervision. You will supervise equipment, coordinate with dispatchers, and maintain daily logs and reports.

The role requires attention to detail, the ability to work rotating shifts, and the readiness to train CROs. This position is based in Salt Lake City, UT and offers competitive hourly pay with

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• May be filled at the CRO Trainee, CRO, or CRO Certified level per attached hiring priority.

Responsibilities

• Operate turbines, generators, boilers and associated systems from the control center for safe, controlled production of electrical energy.
• Monitor plant operations at the control board, charts, meters and gauges to insure proper plant operation.
• Maintain proper voltage and current and synchronize the generator.
• Control boiler temperature, steam flow, feed water and fuel flow during operations.
• Monitor and control pollution control equipment such as precipitators and NOx/SO2 control equipment.
• Troubleshoot operating problems from control board and take equipment in and out of service for repairs.
• Coordinate with dispatchers to govern generator load and system voltage.
• Report load and restriction conditions and receive switching orders; maintain a shift log and prepare daily reports.
• Take hourly readings on plant equipment for status reporting; direct orders to plant staff; assist with housekeeping and training CROs.

Responsibilities

As a control room operator, you will operate, monitor, and control plant electric generating units and associated systems to insure safe, efficient, and continuous production of electricity under the direction and review of the plant manager, operations supervisors, and in conjunction with the system dispatcher.

• Operate turbines, generators, boilers, combustion turbines and generators, and all associated systems and auxiliary equipment from the control center board, either manually or by automatic control, for safe, controlled production of electrical energy
• Monitor plant and auxiliary equipment operations at the control board, charts, meters, and gauges to insure proper plant operation
• Maintain proper voltage and current
• Synchronize the generator
• Control boiler temperature, steam flow, feed water and fuel flow during operations.
• Monitor and control plant pollution control equipment such as precipitators, SO2 scrubber equipment and NOx control equipment.
• Troubleshoot operating problems from control board, initiate corrective action when necessary, and take equipment in and out of service for repairs in a safe and orderly fashion.
• Coordinate with dispatchers to govern generator load and system voltage.
• Report load and restriction conditions to dispatchers and receive switching orders and initiate switching
• Maintain a shift log to ensure accurate records and prepare daily reports concerning plant heat rate, steam production, megawatt output, etc.
• Take hourly readings on plant equipment and systems for reporting operating status to plant engineer or other plant staff personnel for determining plant efficiency
• Direct and delegate orders to plant, maintenance, and equipment operators and helpers to maintain proper control of all generating systems and associated auxiliary systems and equipment
• Answer plant phones and direct calls to the requested individual or department as necessary
• Perform necessary housekeeping duties as assigned
• Train other CROs as requested
• Other duties similar to those listed above may be assigned. When management determines that it is efficient, employees in this classification may be assigned duties of less complexity.
