Job summary

Magna Exteriors in Tennessee seeks an Assembly Manufacturing Engineer to develop manufacturing processes for new programs, establish lean layouts and lead launches. You will mentor junior engineers and coordinate equipment installations while collaborating with suppliers and internal teams.

The role requires a BS in engineering, 3–5 years in assembly manufacturing, and experience with AutoCAD and robotics. Occasional overtime and shifts may apply in a dynamic automotive environment.

Qualifications

  • BS in engineering required or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of assembly manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Automotive industry experience preferred.
  • Ability to learn new applications quickly.
  • Competent in AutoCAD and related engineering tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing processes for new product/programs (assembly equipment, process flow, labor estimates, work instructions, error proofing).
  • Prepare quotes and other customer submissions.
  • Establish production floor layouts promoting lean concepts and space efficiency.
  • Coordinate department responsibilities for new program launches.
  • Provide leadership and audit manufacturing effectiveness and quality.
  • Lead teams to effective solutions and mentor junior engineers.
  • Act as Project Manager for new line installations and relocations.
  • Manage capital expenditures, building/equipment additions, procurements and upgrades.

Group Summary

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop manufacturing processes for new product/programs. (Specify assembly equipment, establish process flow, estimate labor requirements, develop work instructions, design and implement error proofing, etc.).
  • Prepare quote and other customer required submissions.
  • Establish production floor layouts that promote lean manufacturing concepts and effective usage of space.
  • Coordinate department responsibilities for launches of new programs.
  • Provide leadership and audit the process for manufacturing effectiveness and quality.
  • Represent Nascote at assembly plants for problem evaluation or during launches.
  • Represent Nascote at vendor shops to validate machines prior to delivery.
  • Investigate process problems using the 8D or similar problem-solving methodologies.
  • Lead teams to effective solutions.
  • Periodically re-evaluate assembly processes for improved throughput, labor utilization, and quality.
  • Prepare Engineering Change documents and follow up as the changes move through departments.
  • Must be competent in and utilize AIAG "Core Tools" Determines facility and maintenance project requirements.
  • Leads Maintenance team and coordinates daily maintenance activities.
  • Plans and coordinates new line equipment installation and relocation and building additions.
  • Utilize effective communication skills.
  • Work various shifts, overtime, and weekends when required.
  • Make safety a top priority in work behavior and assembly line design.
  • Mentor entry level Assembly Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Past work in manufacturing operations in an engineering or technical capacity.
  • Preferred 3-5 years of assembly manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Preferred Maintenance planning and supervision experience.
  • Must be computer skilled in a variety of common business and engineering applications and able to learn new applications quickly.
  • Competent in use of Auto-Cad.
  • Preferred experience with robotics.
  • Must be able to provide statements of work and effectively communicate with and manage equipment suppliers.
  • Must have the ability to be well presented to the customer and maintain composure in challenging situations.
  • Able to assume supervisory duties and be effective at performing tasks through others.
  • B.S. degree in engineering discipline (required).
  • Experience in the Automotive Industry or another assembly related field (preferred).
  • In special circumstances, candidates who have not met the required education, but have substantial manufacturing work experience that is applicable to the job may be considered.
  • Provides engineering assistance with respect to capital expenditures including building and equipment additions, procurements and upgrades and relocations.
  • Acts as Project Manager for coordination of new line installations and relocations.
