Job summary

Hendrickson is seeking a manufacturing automation engineer to design and develop machine control systems supporting new product development, improvements, and capacity expansions. Primary work includes AutoCAD Electrical, PLC and HMI programming, and panel-building support.

Required: BS in a related technical field, 3–5 years in manufacturing engineering, AutoCAD (Electrical preferred), and familiarity with Rockwell Automation software (RSLogix 500/5000, FactoryTalk).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical area is required (EE preferred).
  • 3–5 years of professional manufacturing engineering experience.
  • AutoCAD experience required (Electrical preferred).
  • Fanuc Robotics experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Familiar with NEC and NFPA codes.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation software and components (RSLogix 500/5000, FactoryTalk View, FactoryTalk Transaction Manager, Kinetix Drives, Ethernet, and DeviceNET).

Responsibilities

  • Manage, develop, and implement automation projects for tooling, controls, and equipment.
  • Implement process or control changes to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Participate in equipment design and systems reviews.
  • Maintain accurate BOMs and project documentation.
  • Support standardization by specifying and purchasing controls equipment.
  • Provide technical assistance to manufacturing and maintenance teams.

Job description

Position Purpose:

Design and develop machine control systems to support new product development, product improvements, capacity expansions, and equipment rebuild projects. Primary responsibility will be designing controls systems using AutoCAD Electrical, PLC and HMI programming, but must be willing and able to assists in all project activities in order to meet requirements including panel building.

Essential Functions:
  1. Manage, develop, and implement automation systems projects for tooling, controls, and equipment to achieve stated objectives while meeting cost and time targets.
  2. Implement methods, process or control changes to systems to reduce overall costs, improve quality and expand manufacturing capabilities.
  3. Participate in equipment design and review from a systems design perspective.
  4. Maintain accurate BOM’s and files to support project documentation package.
  5. Support standardization initiatives by specifying and purchasing similar controls equipment, components, and participate in standards development.
  6. Participate in equipment design and review from a systems design perspective.
  7. Provide technical assistance to the manufacturing and maintenance personnel to solve chronic or complex problems.
Education and Training
  • BS in a related technical area is required (EE preferred).
  • Formal training in robotic systems, metal fabrication, and arc welding is astrong positive.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical area is required (EE preferred).
  2. 3-5 years of professional experience in manufacturing engineering.
  3. AutoCAD experience required (AutoCAD Electrical preferred).
  4. Fanuc Robotics experience is a strong plus.
  5. Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components
  6. Familiar with NEC and NFPA codes.
  7. Experience with Rockwell Automation software and components (RSLogix 500/5000, FactoryTalk View, FactoryTalk Transaction Manager, Kinetix Drives, Ethernet, and DeviceNET communication protocols.
  1. Should demonstrate excellent problem solving, decision-making, communication and interpersonal skills.
  2. Must be able to work well within a team environment and collaborate with different functional groups.
Physical Demands
  • Frequent sitting, work at a computer for extended periods of time (estimated 50% desk / 50% floor role.)
  • Must be willing to travel to Hendrickson manufacturing facilities on an as‑needed basis (up to 20%)
  • Must be able to lead the physical assembly of his/her own mechanical/electrical machine designs, making adjustments as needed.
  • Candidate will be working in and around industrial machinery. May be exposed to the following processes and the environmental conditions inherent with each: automation, machining, heat treat, laser cutting, and other assembly processes.
  • All necessary PPE (as defined by OSHA) and training associated with such will be provided.
Environmental Conditions
  • Office setting & shop floor setting
  • Candidate will be working in and around industrial machinery. May be exposed to the following processes and the environmental conditions inherent with each: automation, machining, heat treat, laser cutting, and other assembly processes.
  • All necessary PPE (as defined by OSHA) and training associated with such will be provided.
