Job summary

IBM Research invites a summer intern to join the RTE deployments for quantum systems. Build out RTE setups, troubleshoot, and help enhance reliability and stability of critical infrastructure.

You will work on chiller distribution units and control systems as part of the IBM Quantum effort to advance practical quantum computing, with a focus on EE/physics-oriented skills and hands-on testing.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in EE, Physics or related field.
  • Studies in EE, Physics or related discipline; proficient in electrical control setups; test/validation experience; troubleshooting complex systems; interest in quantum control.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to RTE deployments for IBM Quantum systems and build out RTE infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot issues and propose improvements to reliability and stability.
  • Assist with qualification, setup and operation of Chiller Distribution Units for constant temperature fluid.

Your role and responsibilities

At IBM Quantum we build utility scale (> 100 qubit) quantum computer systems comprised of superconducting qubits cooled to 10mK in dilution refrigerators and controlled by microwave pulses produced from advanced racks of room temperature electronics (RTE). Our team at IBM quantum working on building, deploying and calibrating these systems is looking for a summer intern to contribute to RTE deployments. In this role you will help build out our RTE systems, troubleshoot issues, and suggest improvements that may help with systems reliability and stability. This also includes improvements to the qualification, setup and operation of Chiller Distribution Units which provide constant temperature fluid for several system components.

Candidate for this role is required to have the following expertise:

  • Studies in EE, Physics or a related discipline
  • Proficient in electrical control setups
  • Knowledge in the test and validation of control setups
  • Experience troubleshooting complex systems
  • Desire/interest to work in the field of quantum control systems
Preferred technical and professional experience

Candidate for this role would also benefits from the following expertise:

  • General knowledge of microwave circuits, incl. test equipment
  • Knowledge of classical control and readout of quantum circuits
  • Understanding of circuit design and test

OTHER RELEVANT JOB DETAILS

Supplemental 1 employees may be eligible for up to 8 paid holidays, minimum of 56 hours paid sick time and the IBM Employee Stock Purchase Plan. IBM offers paid family medical leave and disability benefits to eligible employees where required by applicable law.

For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
