Job summary

Gibraltar Perimeter Security is seeking a hands-on Controls & Assembly Technician to support the wiring, assembly, and troubleshooting of electrical control systems while assisting with mechanical assembly as production needs require.

The ideal candidate will read blueprints, diagrams, and schematics, work safely with tools and testing equipment, and be able to move between controls and assembly tasks to help meet production goals.

Qualifications

  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
  • Assist with the assembly and wiring of electrical control panels and control systems.
  • Install and connect electrical components, wiring, switches, sensors, relays, terminal blocks, and other control devices.
  • Verify completed work against drawings, diagrams, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Identify wiring, component, or assembly issues and communicate concerns to the appropriate team member.
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, electrical testing equipment, and other production equipment.
  • Assist the assembly team when controls workload is limited or production priorities require additional support.
  • Read and follow mechanical blueprints, assembly drawings, and work instructions.
  • Assemble mechanical components and equipment according to specifications.
  • Install, align, fasten, and adjust components using hand and power tools.
  • Assist with fitting, drilling, bolting, mounting, and other general assembly activities.
  • Inspect completed assemblies for proper fit, function, and workmanship.
  • Work collaboratively with Controls, Engineering, Quality, and Production personnel to complete projects on schedule.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Perform other production and assembly duties as assigned.

The Controls & Assembly Technician is a hands‑on position responsible for supporting the assembly, wiring, and troubleshooting of electrical control systems while also assisting with mechanical assembly as production needs require.

This position is ideal for someone who is mechanically inclined, comfortable working with electrical components, and able to read and follow blueprints, electrical diagrams, and schematics.

The successful candidate will be dependable, hardworking, and willing to move between controls and assembly work to help the team meet production goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Controls Support
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
  • Assist with the assembly and wiring of electrical control panels and control systems.
  • Install and connect electrical components, wiring, switches, sensors, relays, terminal blocks, and other control devices.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience in industrial assembly, electrical assembly, controls, manufacturing, maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, electrical diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
  • Basic understanding of electrical wiring and industrial control components.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to learn new equipment and processes.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and basic electrical testing equipment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to assist wherever needed and transition between controls and mechanical assembly work.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull as required.
  • Ability to safely work around manufacturing equipment and in an industrial production environment.
  • Manual dexterity necessary for wiring, assembling small components, and using hand and power tools.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on, hardworking team player who enjoys building and troubleshooting equipment. This person does not need to be an advanced Controls or PLC Technician but should have enough electrical and mechanical knowledge to understand diagrams, follow technical instructions, and learn quickly.

This role requires flexibility. When controls work is available, the employee will support controls‑related assembly and wiring. During downtime, the employee will work alongside the production team on general mechanical assembly and other tasks needed to keep production moving.
