Job Description

Contributing faculty members serve in a part-time capacity to educate Walden University students by effectively using online technology and resources so that knowledge, information, feedback, and critique are imparted to and shared with students in thoughtful, carefully formulated, well written, and timely communications. This is accomplished in an environment that is respectful of the student, the Faculty Member, Walden University, and the discipline in which the Faculty Member is involved. Faculty Members are expected to adhere to all Walden University Faculty expectations, which are clearly set forth to the Faculty Member at the start of employment with the University.

Responsibilities

  • Training: All new Faculty Members receive specific training in teaching techniques, use of an electronic learning platform, policies and procedures, degree programs of the School or College in which they will teach, socialization into the Walden University culture, assessment of academic integrity of student work (including use of www.turnitin.com), and research supervision of theses and dissertations.
  • Course Teaching: Faculty Members are assigned a course taught using the Canvas platform and are responsible for interacting with students within this platform. Discussion Boards are open 24/7. Postings must be completed in a timely manner in accordance with the Faculty Handbook or other criteria established by Walden University. Per the faculty handbook, responses to student questions must be posted within 48 hours. Faculty Members are required to verify the accuracy of student postings and submissions and to provide feedback and grades to students.
  • Availability: Faculty members are expected to be reasonably accessible to students outside the course discussion board and to provide substantive feedback on assignments and postings. Availability should be published through course syllabi, instructor information in the classroom, and/or other documents. Regular and predictable availability is suggested, such as online office hours or regular online chats.
  • Residencies: Faculty Members may be required to attend residencies held domestically or internationally (part-time faculty may, but are not required to attend), where they will teach intensives and colloquia and facilitate school and university-wide discussions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

  • PhD, Doctorate, or other terminal degree in a closely related field to Healthcare Management / Administration (or recognized by a country’s Ministry of Education or Council of Higher Education).
  • Candidates with experience in introduction courses, leadership and ability to contribute as an outside faculty member for accreditation preferred.
  • 3+ years of teaching experience at the degree level of the program is preferred.
  • 2+ years online or technology-enabled instruction experience.
  • Faculty members are required to have an adequate computer to handle an electronic learning platform, keyboard, pointing device, and computer monitor. All other tools are knowledge-based or training-based through Walden University. The Faculty Member must be able to use Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), zip software, and Acrobat, and must have reliable Internet access with alternate access if needed.
  • Candidates should possess a significant record of intellectual and professional contributions to the field of Healthcare Administration/Management, including experience in healthcare leadership, quality, and marketing.
  • Commitment to advocating for the learning and development needs of students in distance education.
  • Teaching, advising and mentoring; commitment to the promotion of applied research and the recruitment and development of a diverse faculty; excellent leadership, communication, teamwork, and human relations skills.
  • Experience with distance and programmatic accreditation learning preferred.
  • Faculty Members must be appropriately credentialed, possess an earned degree from an accredited institution or recognized by a country’s Ministry of Education in the discipline being taught, and may be licensed or license-eligible in order to teach in specific programs.
  • Faculty Members must maintain their licenses and any appropriate certifications to continue teaching at Walden University.
  • Faculty Members are also expected to maintain currency with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations. If participating in research, the Faculty Member may publish and acknowledge Walden University.

Additional Information

  • In support of pay transparency laws, the expected compensation rate for this position is as follows:
  • Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter or Semester, depending on course type and length
  • Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter, depending on course type and length
  • Actual pay may be adjusted based on job-related factors such as course type, experience, training, location, licensure, market factors, budgets, and responsibilities.
