Job summary

UNC Charlotte seeks an entry-level Building Automation System technician to support operation and maintenance of the campus BAS, focusing on VAV terminal units and FCUs.

You will work in variable environmental conditions, perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs, and use MS Office and a work order system to document activities and communicate with the team.

Qualifications

• Three Years of experience in the Commercial/Industrial HVAC industry.
• Computer skills; experience with VAV systems.
• OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform work in various environments including mechanical rooms and around large HVAC equipment.
• Safely access and work above ceilings using ladders while performing preventive maintenance, service, diagnostics, and repairs.
• Test, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate VAV boxes, damper actuators, valve actuators, and airflow measurement stations.
• Apply knowledge of HVAC control sequences, electrical and hydronic systems.
• Diagnose and resolve low-voltage electrical and controls issues with meters and testing equipment.
• Interpret system operation to identify faults and implement corrective actions.
• Document service activities and communicate with customers using work orders and office apps.

Primary Purpose of Position

This entry-level position provides foundational technical support for the operation and maintenance of the campus Building Automation System ( BAS ), with a primary focus on Variable Air Volume ( VAV ) & Fan Coil Unit ( FCU ) terminal units and associated HVAC control devices.

Summary of Position Responsibilities

• Perform work in a variety of environmental conditions, including hot and cold temperatures, mechanical rooms, and around large commercial HVAC equipment.
• Safely access and work above ceilings using ladders while performing preventive maintenance, service, diagnostics, and repairs.
• Test, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate VAV boxes, damper actuators, valve actuators, and airflow measurement stations.
• Apply a working knowledge of HVAC control sequences of operation, mechanical and electrical principles, and air and hydronic water systems.
• Diagnose and resolve low-voltage electrical and controls issues using meters and other testing equipment.
• Interpret system operation and equipment performance to identify faults and implement corrective actions.
• Use Google Business and/or Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and a work order management system to document service activities, complete work orders, prepare reports, and communicate effectively with customers and team members.

Three Years of experience in the Commercial/Industrial HVAC industry.
