Company Description

About Security Blotter

No Clickbait. No Ads. Just Actionable Security Insights And Free CPE credits.

Based in Upstate New York, Security Blotter was founded to be a source of timely, actionable truth in cybersecurity. We know the challenges firsthand because we’ve lived them.

Role Description

This is a remote volunteer role for a contributing author at SecurityBlotter.com. The Contributing Author will write and submit articles on security-related topics, conduct research, and review other authors’ contributions. This role requires creativity, thorough research, and timely content delivery. Additional tasks include participating in team meetings and contributing to editorial planning sessions.

Qualifications

  • A CISSP, CISM, CEH, or related certificate is a plus. We're not elitists, but our site's theme is that its led by senior professionals in the field.
  • If you don't have one of these certificates but have a lot of knowledge and experience to add... apply anyway, we can find ways to help each other.
  • Strong Analytical Skills and the ability to translate complex topics into accessible content.
  • Experience in Training and educational content development is a plus
  • Sales and marketing experience to understand audience engagement is a plus.
  • Project Management skills for coordinating with editorial teams and meeting deadlines. Since we are volunteers, our deadlines are self-imposed, but our mission requires timely content.
  • Basic knowledge of Software Development and interest in tech trends. You don't have to be a programmer, but you should understand the SDLC enough to recognize threats when you read about them.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong ability to use AI tools (particularly deep-research AI bots) for research, threat intelligence, fact-checking, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Previous experience with writing or content creation is a plus.

The pay is $0 right now. We are a nonprofit, not even for revenue. I personally pay for all of the site's expenses. Maybe someday we will pivot to a revenue model, but at this juncture, we are building a community. The pay is in experience, CPE credits, and the satisfaction that comes from protecting your community and growing your experience and profession.

I know this unpaid work is not for everyone. But I also know there are more people like me out there who want to give back. If that's you, lets talk.
