JOB SUMMARY:

The Physical Therapist is responsible for assessing the needs of patients and establishing treatment goals in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Lakeside Behavioral Health. The physical therapist provides treatment, documents, and integrates their findings as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team approach.

Since 1969, Lakeside has been the premier provider of specialized behavioral health and addictive disease services in the Memphis and Mid-South region. The 365-bed facility is one of the largest free-standing psychiatric hospitals in the United States. We are located on a serene 37-acre campus in northeast Shelby County, serving as the setting for the treatment for children, adolescents, young adults, adults and seniors. Lakeside's comprehensive programs treat disorders such as bipolar disorder, psychological trauma, depression and anxiety, mental illness and addictive disease disorders such as alcoholism, drug addiction and substance abuse.

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including adults and dually diagnosed patients.

Education: Master's degree in Physical Therapy required.

Experience: Experience working with a mental health population highly preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Physical Therapist license required.

Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of group leadership skills, age specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management.

Supervision Received: Medical Director -Internal Medicine

Supervision Exercised: N/A

Environmental Conditions:

Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. General hospital environment and tools and equipment necessary to perform recreational therapy.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Physical agility to manage patients. Push, pull and lift up to 40 pounds. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping. Drug and alcohol free as evidenced by negative results of post-offer, pre-employment urine drug screen.
