This position provides support remotely with occasional patient visits in the service area.
The Hospice and Palliative Medicine (HPM) Physician is a member of the Active Medical Staff of Capital Caring Health and provides services to our patients throughout our continuum of care, which includes home and facility-based hospice, palliative care, inpatient hospice, hospital-based palliative care consultation, and outpatient palliative care clinics.
Hospice Medicine
When functioning within the hospice environment, the physician serves as part of the interdisciplinary team as the Hospice Medical Director, assuming overall responsibility for the medical component of patient care and quality assurance.
Responsibilities include palliation and management of terminal illness, ensuring patients meet hospice eligibility, collaborating with attending physicians to develop and update care plans, and overseeing symptom management.
Palliative Medicine
In the palliative care setting, the physician provides consultative management for patients with chronic, progressive illnesses, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team and attending physicians to develop and update care plans, focusing on pain and symptom control.
Experience & Education Requirements
Minimum 3 years of related experience; fellowship preferred. MD or DO from an accredited institution, board certified in an ABMS specialty, with certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Valid medical licenses for DC, Maryland, and Virginia, with DEA registration.
Key Responsibilities
Provide medical management across care settings, participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, maintain ongoing education, and promote collaborative relationships with the medical community.
