Role Description
This is a contract role for a Trauma Therapist at Just For Kids Child Advocacy Center. The Trauma Therapist will provide counseling and therapy services to children who have experienced abuse, develop treatment plans, and work collaboratively with other professionals to support the child’s recovery. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, documenting case progress, and providing support to families. This is a hybrid role based in Oak Hill, WV, with the possibility of some remote work.
Key Responsibilities
1. Therapeutic Services: Provide individual and group therapy to children and their non-offending caregivers. Document services in NCA tracking system.
2. Multidisciplinary Team Participation: Attend multidisciplinary and treatment team meetings to collaborate on cases and ensure comprehensive care.
3. Court Attendance: Attend court proceedings as necessary to support clients and provide expert testimony.
4. Licensure Maintenance: Maintain professional licensure and comply with continuing education requirements.
5. Compliance: Adhere to all 2023 National Children's Alliance mental health standards and West Virginia state laws relevant to child advocacy centers.
6. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
Educational Background: A master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related mental health field.
Licensure: Licensed or certified professional in a related mental health field (e.g., LPC, LCSW, LMFT) or working towards licensure under the supervision of a licensed mental health professional.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience providing therapeutic services to children and families, preferably in a trauma-informed setting.
• Training: Completion (or ability to complete within 90 days of employment) of 40-hours in training and supervision of evidence-supported mental health treatment to children who have experienced trauma (e.g., TF-CBT, PCIT, AF-CBT, CFTSI, EMDR, ART).
Skills
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with children, families, and multidisciplinary team members.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in using electronic health records and documentation systems.
• Professional Liability Insurance: Must have individual professional liability insurance, which may be obtained after employment.
• Background Checks: Must pass background checks as required by West Virginia State Law.
