Project Engineer

Location: Minneapolis, MN 55438, United States

Duration: Contract to perm

Client Industry: Safety equipment manufacturers

Pay rate: $45-52/hr

Job Description:

Our immediate need in the Project Engineering department is for SOFTWARE engineering. Candidates with backgrounds in computer science, electrical engineering, PLC programming, fire alarm programming, or building automation systems are desirable.

About the Role:
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for creating drawings and working with specialized software based on customer specifications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, consultants, and sales staff to gather requirements and provide solutions.
  • Experience in fire alarm systems, mechanical engineering, or related fields such as HVAC or security is a plus.
  • Basic skills in reading and creating diagrams in AutoCAD.
  • Capability to interpret written narratives and work with software accordingly.
  • Experience with programming fire alarms, PLCs, HVAC controllers, or similar systems is advantageous.
  • Minimum five years of experience in fire alarms or related fields, with a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Educational background: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Electrical Engineering preferred; trade school graduates with relevant electronics or electrical installation experience may also be considered.
Responsibilities:
  • Review hardware and software requirements to ensure they meet project specifications before and after order receipt.
  • Recommend actions to the Project Manager if discrepancies are found.
  • Represent the Systems Engineering department at customer meetings, including kickoff and design reviews.
  • Plan and delegate work to support staff to meet project schedules and goals.
  • Resolve technical issues promptly during project execution and manage scope changes.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, including shop drawings, equipment layouts, electrical diagrams, and configuration documents.
  • Create and update bills of materials for procurement and manufacturing.
  • Coordinate with software engineering for programming initiation.
  • Perform final system checkout and certify performance, including testing and reporting.
  • Conduct client acceptance testing at the factory as needed.
Additional Functions:
  • Maintain an AutoCAD standards library for project use.
  • Assist in proposing equipment specifications to meet project needs.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or at least five years of fire alarm system design experience. Experience with controls, fire alarm panels, PLCs, safety systems, petrochemical, or munitions is beneficial.
Qualifications:
  • NICET Level III in Fire Alarm Systems or at least Level I.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar drawing software; AutoCAD Electrical experience is a plus.
  • Experience with ERP systems like JDE, SAP, or similar for parts and project management.
  • Strong teamwork, planning, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently on multiple projects with accuracy.
  • Experience with company products and system integration is advantageous.
