Job summary

Civis Analytics is hiring a Software Engineer (Contract) to build and ship high-quality software across the full stack for client missions. This 6-month contract is ideal for an early-career engineer who will work front-end in React and back-end in Python/Ruby/Node, with SQL, alongside a team focused on meaningful problems.

Candidates must reside in DC, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, or Vermont.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of professional software development experience.
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot).
• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React).
• Experience with Rails, Django or NodeJS for web apps.
• Experience with ReactJS, AngularJS and/or VueJS.
• Comfort with SQL databases.
• Strong problem-solving ability and eagerness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality software across the full stack.
• Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and product managers.
• Review and debug code.
• Apply Civis best practices and design standards.
• Ensure project documents are complete and archived.
• Research, prototype, and recommend software solutions.
• Collaborate with other teams within Civis.
• Engage technically and emotionally with projects.
