BibleProject is seeking a Contract Editor to help revise its 358-day Bible reading plan for the YouVersion Bible app. This six‑month, remote role collaborates with scholars to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistent voice across the entire plan.

Responsibilities include developmental and line editing of long‑form daily entries, writing supplemental content as needed, and delivering work in batches with strict deadlines, starting November 9, 2026. Compensation is hourly and contract-based.

Qualifications

• 8–12 years of editorial experience in devotional or faith‑based content.

• Experience editing long-form or serialized content such as reading plans or devotionals.
• Ability to work with scholars and provide clear, tactful feedback.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet batch delivery dates.

Contract Editor, BibleProject

About the role: BibleProject is expanding its library of free digital resources, and we're looking for a temporary writer to help us do it well. You'll join the Scholarship team for a six-month term, working to edit our flagship Bible-in-a-year reading plan, available on the Bible app by YouVersion, as we revise it for re-release. You will work closely with our scholars and editors to keep the plan clear, accurate, and true to its purpose. This role could evolve into a full-time position for the right candidate.

Core responsibilities:

• Edit the full 358-day One Story That Leads to Jesus reading plan (about 100,000 words) for its re-release on the Bible app
• Write additional content for the daily reading as needed, relying on scholar-generated research and insights
• Calibrate the editing of each daily entry to what it needs, from lighter touches to heavier developmental and line work
• Work in batches and deliver each batch on schedule, with the full plan complete by April 2027
• Attend meetings as needed to sync with the Scholarship team on editorial scope and goals
• Hand off edited batches cleanly to the copyeditor, who will handle copyediting separately
• Keep your work consistent in voice and style across the whole plan

What we're looking for:

• 8-12 years of editorial experience, ideally with devotional, Bible study, or other faith-based content
• Proven ability to edit at the developmental and line levels
• Experience writing and editing long-form or serialized content, such as reading plans, devotionals, or curricula
• Comfort working closely with scholars and subject-matter experts, giving clear and tactful feedback
• Strong organization and the ability to hit batch delivery dates with flexible hours
• Familiarity with Word and Google Docs
• Eligibility to work in the United States
• Nice to have: familiarity with the Bible app or other digital reading platforms; formal biblical or theological education.

Location: Remote

Team: Scholarship

Reporting to: VP of Scholarship and/or Lead Editing Scholar

Beginning: November 9, 2026

Engagement: Contract

Commitment: About 15 hours per week, with flexibility as long as batch delivery dates are met

Duration: Through delivery of the full plan, targeted for April 2027

Compensation: Contract rate of $65-$100, paid hourly, dependent on experience
