Job summary

Comgent is seeking a Resident Network Engineer to provide advanced technical support for production networks. You will work directly with customer teams, developing knowledge of deployments and use cases, with a primary focus on break/fix and rapid service restoration.

This freelance, onsite role (Sunnyvale, CA) requires coordinating with engineering and support teams, reproducing environments in the lab when needed, and contributing to documentation and knowledge articles.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of network engineering experience.
• Proficient in Junos CLI; BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, EVPN/VXLAN and QoS.
• Experience with MX/EX/QFX/PTX platforms and core routing tech.
• Strong Python scripting and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of customer incidents, isolate faults and restore services.
• Coordinate with support and engineering teams, informing stakeholders of escalations.
• Reproduce environments in lab to assist fixes and workarounds.
• Support high-profile escalations with updates, calls and meetings.

Comgent is seeking a Resident Network Engineer to provide advanced technical support for production networks. You will work directly with customer teams, developing detailed knowledge of their deployments and use cases. The primary focus is break/fix support: diagnosing complex faults, restoring services and helping prevent the same problems from returning.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of customer incidents, isolate configuration, network, hardware or software faults and work systematically towards service restoration.
  
• Coordinate with technical support and engineering teams, keeping relevant stakeholders informed of sensitive issues and technical escalations.
  
• Reproduce customer environments and faults in the laboratory where needed, helping engineering teams assess fixes, patches and workarounds.
  
• Support high-profile escalations through written updates, technical calls and meetings, explaining evidence and next steps clearly.
  
• Maintain expertise in the deployed products and technologies, identify training needs as the network evolves, and share reliability and serviceability feedback with engineering teams.
  
• Contribute technical documentation, knowledge articles and practical lessons that improve support quality and customer understanding.
  

Requirements

• Relevant experience: 4+ yearsof network engineering experience.
  
• Junos CLI; BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, VPLS, L2VPN, EVPN/VXLAN and QoS.
  
• Technology environment: MX, EX, QFX, PTX.
  
• Large-scale, hands-on experience with the listed Juniper platforms and core routing technologies is required.
  
• Python scripting; strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  

Excellent engineering troubleshooting skills are essential. Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills will help you work effectively with customer teams and handle demanding incidents.
