Position: Continuum Substance Abuse Counselor

Reports to: Treatment Services Supervisor

Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Schedule: Flexible: days, evenings

Hourly Rate Range: $23.00 - $25.00

Date: May 2026

JOB SUMMARY

The primary role of the Continuum Counselor is to provide direct substance abuse treatment counseling services, including treatment planning, individualized support, and facilitation across the continuum of services at FTS, and help ensure positive treatment outcomes and transitions between levels of care.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in a behavioral health discipline and/or CSAC required. Preference for a minimum of two years’ experience in a residential substance use treatment facility. Personal vehicle and a valid Hawaii State driver's license required.

Essential Functions
  • Develop clinically appropriate treatment plans with assigned clients and revise as scheduled.
  • Provide individual substance abuse counseling, group therapy, family counseling, and case management services as assigned.
  • Provide classes and psycho-educational groups related to addiction, relapse prevention, family issues, women’s issues and/or other appropriate topics.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records for each assigned resident, noting significant problems and progress (using the required electronic health record system).
  • Prepare written reports and correspondence related to case management in a professional and timely manner.
  • Provide ongoing written or verbal communication to other program staff or referral agencies related to client needs or concerns to assure coordination of services.
  • Participate in treatment teams across the continuum of services at FTS in accordance with assigned clients.
  • Work closely with Treatment Services Supervisor to support positive structures, procedures, policies, and trainings across the treatment continuum and the treatment teams.
Additional Employee Responsibilities At FTS
  • Responsible for regular attendance and notification of any absences (at least 3 hours prior to start of shift) or requests to flex schedule (allowed only after proper approval received).
  • Use of TSA-approved communication devices only (work email and work phone numbers). Timely response (within 24 business hours) to calls/texts/emails is expected.
  • Correctly and promptly follow specified agency procedures required for the appropriate handling of all Emergency Response Codes.
  • Participate in mandatory FTS trainings and quarterly staff meetings to keep updated with best practices and agency news.
  • All employees are considered mandated reporters for child abuse/neglect and will follow agency and state reporting requirements as well as be responsible for maintaining training and practices on abuse prevention.
  • Complete an annual health evaluation and TB clearances (per OHCA licensing regulations) and any other additional contract or licensing related employee requirements. Provide completed documentation to the Administration.
  • Maintains work area in a neat, orderly, and sanitary manner.
  • Perform other related duties as may be required or assigned to meet program needs.
