Job summary

Progress Rail is seeking a Continuous Improvement Leader in Sherman, TX to drive Lean transformations across operations. You will lead cross-functional teams, facilitate CI initiatives, and coach plant management while focusing on eliminating waste and improving process flow.

The role requires a strong Lean background, knowledge of Six Sigma and Theory of Constraints, and broad exposure to safety, quality, planning, and supply chain functions in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years experience leading transformation of operations that improved financial results.
  • Lean Methodology experience; Black Belt and Lean certifications preferred.
  • Experience with Safety, Quality, Planning, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Engineering, Finance, Machining, Fabrication, Assembly, Material Handling, and Sales functions.
  • 10 years of experience in Process Validation and Improvement, Quality, Manufacturing Operations, or Supply Chain responsibilities.

  • Develop leaders to identify constraints, directly observe work, solve problems at the source, eliminate waste, build agreement on priorities.
  • Co-own the positive transformation of operations with facility leadership.
  • Lead cross-functional CI processes, focusing on facilitation, coaching and teaching plant management.
  • Identify and remove waste in front office and shop floor through direct observation and hands-on problem solving.
  • Develop data analytics to support problem solving and decision-making.

Job Purpose

A Continuous Improvement Leader is part of the Strategic Operations team managing projects and efforts through the Lean methodology while leveraging other problem solving and continuous improvement tools as needed. The primary focus of this job position is to enable better decision-making, continuous improvement efforts, and problem solving by providing timely support to manufacturing, engineering, quality, and supply chain business organizations. The Continuous Improvement Leader will work in coordination with top facility leadership to transform operations and implement a system and culture that drives flow, develops people and delivers financial results and great customer experience through the Lean methodology.

Key Job Elements
  • Develop leaders to identify constraints, directly observe work, solve problems at the source, eliminate waste, build high agreement of “how” and “what” on priorities and execution, and continuously increase value delivered to customers;
  • Co-owns the positive transformation of operations along with top facility leadership;
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the CI Process as the CI Leader; Special emphasis will be placed on facilitation, coaching and teaching plant management and employees on CI approaches
  • Identify and remove waste in the front office and shop floor processes through direct observation and “hands-on” problem solving;
  • Leads CI efforts with a customer-focused mindset and a sense of urgency;
  • Develop and provide information and data analytics to the business enterprise in order to support problem solving, decision-making and effort prioritization;
  • Support CI process and tool improvements, including developing process maps, business requirements and standard work procedures;
  • Understand and champion all CI performance metrics;
  • Assists in establishing operational methods and work standards using various techniques to optimize business operations and improve quality and velocity;
  • Support other operations within the Infrastructure Business Unit with their CPI efforts.
Education / Training
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field with combination of education and experience.
Qualifications And Experience
  • 5+ years experience in leading transformation of operations that improved financial results and added value to customers;
  • Demonstrated experience with Lean Methodology and knowledge of Six Sigma and Theory of Constraints; Black Belt and Lean certifications preferred;
  • Experience working with Safety, Quality, Planning, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Engineering, Finance, Machining, Fabrication, Assembly, Material Handling, and Sales functions;
  • 10 years of experience Process Validation and Improvement, Quality, Manufacturing Operations, or Supply Chain responsibilities;
  • Experience with problem solving methodologies including Shainin, Ishikawa diagrams, 5 whys, 8-D etc;;
