Job summary

Brazeway in Shelbyville, IN is offering a Continuous Improvement Engineering Intern position to support CI initiatives across manufacturing processes. You will engage in Lean Six Sigma tools, generate SOPs, create training materials, and help deploy CI practices with cross-functional teams.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a technical field, have some exposure to Lean Six Sigma, and demonstrate strong communication, presentation skills, and a self-motivated,

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Applies CI knowledge to improve company processes and productivity.
  • Generates SOPs and educational materials for CI tools.
  • Leads Lean Six Sigma projects and tracks progress with reports.
  • Supports CI & Sustainability projects and cross-functional initiatives.

Where we are located:

Our facility is located in Shelbyville, Indiana. This area is a great location for commuters and residents of the Indianapolis area. Within a 30-45-minute commute are opportunities to live in the heart of a vibrant city or live in a suburb with all the amenities. We also have manufacturing facilities located in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Monterrey, Mexico. Our Corporate Headquarters reside in Adrian, Michigan.

The Job Responsibilities Include
Continuous Improvement
  • Applies fundamental CI knowledge & concepts related to improving company processes and enhancing overall productivity.
  • Provides ideas to improve products, services & processes.
  • Generates standard operating procedures for use of CI tools.
  • Creates educational material for employees to lean & utilize CI tools in their work and processes.
  • Be a one-stop-shop guide for employee to learn and bounce CI ideas and projects.
  • Generates creative content for promoting use of CI throughout the business
Sustainability
  • Effectively leads and engages in the idea and concept of moving towards being a green business.
  • Creates awareness & develop ideas to move the business towards lower environmental impact.
  • Adds positively to the global and local economy and environment.
  • Ties in Sustainability to how we do business & the impact on all stakeholders.
  • Communicates information creatively throughout the business
Technical
  • Performs Lean Six Sigma project data analysis and interpretation.
  • Utilizes excel, Minitab & PowerPoint
  • Assists in the development and deployment of the Lean Six Sigma toolset (such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Standard Work).
  • Assists in Lean Six Sigma project documentation.
  • Works to streamline current processes and make process improvements as identified.
  • Tracks progress throughout assignment and provide a report out to Brazeway Leadership at end of assignment.
Administrative
  • Supports the CI & Sustainability department in improvement projects
The Right Fit For This Position
  • Is willing to travel other Brazeway locations as needed – estimated to be <10% of the time.
  • Working towards a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technical Degree.
  • Experience with Six Sigma, Lean and Continuous Improvement problem solving tools.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • The ability to interface with all levels of the organization and externally with customers and suppliers
  • A strong work ethic and a strong commitment to a team environment
  • Self-Motivated Student with ability to juggle many tasks
  • Ability to draw conclusions and create reports and presentations - technical thinking ability
  • Prefer Experience in: Sustainability, Environmental, Statistics, and Thermodynamics
  • Must be flexible as business opportunities develop and able to multi-task with other duties and projects when they become available.
  • Actively follows and manages to our Process Based Leadership, Code of Conduct and our 5S+Safety Program.
  • Track progress throughout assignment and provide a report out to Brazeway Leadership at end of assignment.
  • Improve professional presence through working with cross-functional teams on various projects, presentations, and initiatives.
  • Support other Continuous Improvement efforts as required.
