Job summary

Metal Technologies is seeking a Continuous Improvement Engineer to drive Operational Excellence across the plant. You will partner with all functions to reduce waste, cut costs, improve safety, and boost productivity while maintaining the MTI Operating System.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering, Lean Six Sigma green/black, 5+ years in manufacturing, and CAD experience. You will lead cross-functional projects, justify capital investments, and mentor project champions on standardized

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, management, or related field.
  • Lean Six Sigma – Green or Black belt.
  • 5+ years of experience as an engineer or project manager in a manufacturing setting preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role preferred.
  • Experience with CAD and/or 3-D modeling such as AutoCAD and/or Pro/E preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Owner of MTI Operating System ("Operational Excellence")
  • Manages and directs Operational Excellence processes, projects, and activities.
  • Assist plant operations in identifying, prioritizing, and driving manufacturing efficiencies by utilizing continuous improvement techniques and opportunities.
  • Provides direction and guidance with cost justification to ensure deliverables are achieved for plant level projects.
  • Provides structure to Operational Excellence projects to ensure standardized processes are created and being used.
  • Utilize benchmarking process for resolving plant issues, identifying waste in the process and to determine plant and industry best practices.
  • Manage the investigation of operational issues by gathering / evaluating data and the development of recommended solutions.
  • Perform DOEs to resolve process variation and test out new lower cost products, materials, or processes to create to reduce operating cost and implement best practices.
  • Tracking and reporting of Operational Excellence projects to plant and corporate management team.
  • Manages the design and layout of equipment, materials, and workspaces to maximize efficiency and utilization.
  • Influence the use of Capital investment based on data and process analysis to drive continual improvement.
  • Assist with fiscal year plant planning of improvement project opportunities and goal creation.
  • Assist with creating and maintain standard work.
  • Manage projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Provide training to project champions as needed.

Job description

The Continuous Improvement Engineer oversees and participates in continual improvement activities. Works with all functional areas to improve safety, reduce scrap, minimize cost, maximize productivity, improve processes, achieve organizational objectives, and ensure continual improvements in meeting internal and external customer requirements. Conceptualizes improvements and assists in developing business cases. Primary responsibility for ensuring the MTI Operating System is maintained and promoted across the company.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively organize multiple tasks.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts
  • understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and/or software
  • Acknowledges the need for continued personal and professional growth.
Working Conditions:
  • The Continuous Improvement Engineer will reside in the office and on the production floor. Must be able to adhere to conditions in the plant.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Management, or related field required.
  • Lean Six Sigma - Green or Black belt.
