Job summary

South Texas College seeks a CATA Trainer – Avionics Technician to support the education and training of students in avionics technology. The trainer will create interactive lessons and support students in achieving hands-on skills in aircraft electronics and navigation systems.

Job Overview

The CATA Trainer – Avionics Technician trainer supports the education and hands‑on training of students pursuing careers in avionics technology. The trainer utilizes interactive lessons, technical demonstrations, and real‑world scenarios to teach foundational and advanced skills in aircraft electronics, navigation systems, communication equipment, and diagnostic procedures. This role prepares students to work alongside aviation professionals in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing avionics systems in a variety of aerospace and aviation settings.

Responsibilities
  • Instruct Avionics Technician classes for students at various proficiency levels.
  • Implement and evaluate the educational curriculum to ensure student success.
  • Motivate students to attend class, learn, and achieve their goals.
  • Create and support individual educational plans to facilitate timely coursework completion.
  • Maintain student and class records, track attendance, and assess academic performance.
  • Complete and submit required course documentation on time.
  • Communicate with coordinators about students not meeting attendance and academic goals or behavior expectations.
  • Provide support service recommendations for students.
  • Maintain a positive, productive classroom environment and address behavior problems effectively.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, staff, and peers.
  • Conduct sponsor‑teacher conferences.
  • Travel throughout the College district as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • One (1) year of teaching or training experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail within stated deadlines.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends as needed and travel throughout the college district using reliable personal transportation.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to present information and respond to inquiries from groups of students, customers, or employees.

  • Ability to solve problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
Security and Logistics
  • Position is security sensitive; all applicants are subject to a criminal background check.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a valid Texas driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds of force and up to 10 pounds to move objects.
  • Movement of body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
  • Can perceive attributes of objects by touch, including size, shape, temperature, or texture.
  • Can perform tasks primarily with fingers, including typing.
  • Can perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Can raise, move, and manipulate objects horizontally and vertically.
  • Requires upper and back muscle use for considerable time.
  • Can make rational decisions using logic and deductive processes.
  • Can extend hands and arms in any direction.
  • Can maintain closed visual acuity for tasks such as analyzing data, transcribing, and reading.
  • Can move over longer distances or between work sites.
Compensation

$15.75 per hour
