Job summary

Kennedy-King College in Chicago seeks a Continuing Education Construction Instructor to prepare and deliver industry-relevant instruction in construction estimating, scheduling, PM and project controls. You will connect classroom learning to real-world applications for adult learners, fostering workforce readiness and career development.

Strong industry experience and PMP certification are required; you will use MS Project/Primavera P6 and LMS platforms to support engaging, hands-on instruction

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field with industry experience.
  • Minimum five years in construction estimating, scheduling, PM, or related field.
  • PMP certification is required.
  • Proficiency with MS Project and/or Primavera P6.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver instruction in construction estimating, scheduling and PM.
  • Develop lesson plans, activities, assignments and assessments aligned to industry needs.
  • Facilitate engaging learning using lectures, case studies and hands-on exercises.
  • Teach cost estimates, budgets, bid proposals and project schedules.
  • Provide CPM scheduling and project management best practices instruction.
  • Use construction management software and instructional technology to support learning.
  • Assess student performance and provide timely feedback.
  • Maintain attendance, grades and course records.
  • Support student retention, completion and employment outcomes.
  • Collaborate with institutional staff and industry partners on curriculum.
  • Stay current on industry practices and participate in workforce development activities.

CONTINUING EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR - CONSTRUCTION
KENNENDY-KING COLLEGE

Kennedy-King College is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Continuing Education Construction Instructor to prepare and deliver industry-relevant instruction in construction estimating,scheduling, project management, and project controls. The instructor will provide engaging classroom and hands-on learning experiences that equip adult learners with the practical skills necessary to pursue careers and advancement opportunities within the construction industry.

The successful candidate will leverage substantial construction industry experience to connect classroom instruction to real-world applications while fostering student success, workforce readiness, and career development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and deliver instruction in construction estimating,scheduling, project management, and related constructiontopics.
  • Develop lesson plans, classroom activities, assignments, andassessments that align with industry standards and workforceneeds.
  • Facilitate engaging learning experiences for adult learnersusing lectures, demonstrations, case studies, and hands-onexercises.
  • Teach students how to develop construction cost estimates,budgets, bid proposals, and project schedules.
  • Provide instruction on Critical Path Method (CPM) schedulingand project management best practices.
  • Utilize construction management software and instructionaltechnology to support student learning.
  • Assess student performance and provide timely feedback andacademic support.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grade, and courserecords.
  • Support student retention, completion, and employmentoutcomes.
  • Collaborate with Continuing Education staff, Academic Affairs,Student Services, Career Services, and industrypartners.
  • Assist with curriculum development, updates, and continuousimprovement initiatives.
  • Stay current on emerging practices, technologies, and trendswithin the construction industry.
  • Participate in recruitment, outreach, and workforce developmentactivities as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, ConstructionEngineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, EngineeringTechnology, or a related field; or an associate degree combinedwith significant industry experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience inconstruction estimating, scheduling, project management, projectcontrols, or a related construction field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project and/or PrimaveraP6.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonalcommunication skills.
  • Ability to effectively instruct, coach, and mentor adultlearners.
  • Ability to relate industry experience to practical classroominstruction.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification.
  • Certified Cost Professional (CCP) certification.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
  • Primavera P6 Certification.
  • Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or workforcedevelopment experience.
  • Experience working on commercial, industrial, infrastructure,public-sector, or large-scale construction projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Construction cost estimating and bidding processes.
  • Construction scheduling and Critical Path Method(CPM).
  • Construction project management principles andmethodologies.
  • Budget development, cost control, and resourceallocation.
  • Risk management and project controls.
  • Construction documentation and project reporting.
  • Change order management and project closeoutprocedures.
  • Leadership, team development, and stakeholdermanagement.
  • Learning Management Systems such as Brightspace, Blackboard,Canvas, or similar platforms.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook andPowerPoint.
  • Virtual learning technologies such as Microsoft Teams andZoom.

This position may require instruction at both Kennedy-King College and Dawson Technical Institute locations. Courses may be offered during daytime, evening, and/or weekend hours based on program needs.

Salary Range: $60 per instructional hour
