Job Description

Continuing Education is seeking dynamic instructors and lecturers to provide high-quality, engaging learning experiences for adult lifelong learners across our community. Our instructors and lecturers present with enthusiasm and utilize practical, effective teaching strategies tailored to adult student development. Responsibilities include supporting the strategic goals of Oakton College and the Continuing Education division while creating an inclusive, empowering learning environment for a diverse adult population. Opportunities are available to teach specialized courses and workshops or 1-day lectures for the Emeritus Lecture Series.

Emeritus Lecture Series

The Emeritus Lecture Series features three thematic categories:

• My Kind of Town - Chicago and surrounding area history, arts, current events and more (Monday afternoons from 1:00-2:30 p.m.)
• Passages - Humanities-based topics such as art, theater, history, music and more (Tuesday afternoons from 1:00-2:30 p.m.)
• Passport - Foreign relations, current events, science, political issues, economics and more (Thursday afternoons from 1:00-2:30 p.m.)

Specialized Courses and Workshops

Specialized courses and workshops may encompass the following topics, but are not limited to:

• Creative Arts, Literature and Cinematic Arts
• Technology & Digital Literacy
• Humanities, History and Philosophy
• Current Events
• Languages and Culture

Job Requirements

• Minimum of Master's degree in the relevant field, or Bachelor's + 3 years of experience
• Relevant teaching experience and demonstrated expertise in the relevant field
• Experience with curriculum development preferred
• Awareness and knowledge of student learning styles and strategies to address such variety
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to use online platforms as educational tools (e.g., Google Meet, Zoom, Learning Management Systems)
• Enthusiasm for teaching and learning of the discipline area
• Willingness to support the goals of Oakton College and the Continuing Education division and create effective learning environments for diverse populations of students

Essential Functions of the Position

Preparation of program learning activities and instructional materials (as appropriate)

Delivery of instruction, including being prepared for and meeting programs at scheduled times

Compliance with departmental and institutional policies and procedures including but not limited to submission of midterm and final grades, and Compliance with institutional procedures

Salaries

Salaries are dependent upon the nature of the program and the instructor's experience.
