Position Location: Marion Senior Center, 2375 Harding Highway E., Marion, OH

This is a part-time, non-exempt position, with no guarantee of a set number of working hours per week, with a pay rate of $14.67 per hour, increasing to $17.28 after 90 days, and $19.57 after 15 months of successful probation.

NOTE:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid Ohio Driver’s License without restrictions and free from any requirement of High-Risk Liability Insurance is required.
  • Passing a Background Check, Physical Examination, Drug and Alcohol Tests are conditions of employment. Must not use any tobacco products.
  • Will need to obtain CPR certification, and take Defensive Driving and DRIVE Training courses (City pays/reimburses).

Responsible for providing safe, timely transportation for elderly clients to and from homes to predetermined destinations, via Senior Center's minibus or van, helping clients to remain independent in their homes. This is a part-time, non-exempt position with no guarantee of set hours per week.

Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, physical examination, and drug screen are required prior to employment with the City of Marion.

SUMMARY: Responsible to the Senior Center Director to provide safe, timely transportation for elderly clients to and from homes and destinations via the Senior Center's minibus or van, supporting their independence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties as assigned:

  • Drive vehicle according to schedule; locate destinations using maps and directions; assist passengers in and out of vehicle, load/unload packages, hold umbrellas, etc.
  • Complete daily vehicle inspections; address safety issues; perform minor repairs; clean and fuel vehicle; complete forms and reports.
  • Operate two-way radio for communication.
  • Participate in training such as Defensive Driving, Passenger Assistance, First Aid, and CPR.
  • Follow all driving, work, and safety rules and regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory responsibilities, except maintaining order on the van.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience, with at least two years of safe driving experience without violations in the past three years.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and understand instructions, maps, traffic rules; write simple reports; communicate effectively.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic math operations and percentages.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Ohio Driver's License; Class C or higher Commercial Driver's License preferred.
  • Other Skills: Familiarity with local streets; experience with passenger transportation; good relationships with clients and colleagues; no limitations affecting safe driving or emergency response.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must meet physical requirements such as standing, walking, sitting, lifting up to 50 pounds, and good vision and hearing for safety.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to weather, moving parts, fumes, chemicals, vibration; moderate noise level.
