Description

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer II is responsible for reviewing physician orders and patient information to prepare for exams. They perform a variety of specialized ultrasound examinations to obtain high-quality images for diagnostic interpretation, following departmental protocols. The Sonographer also conducts vascular exams under supervision and may assist with US-guided procedures, working closely with ultrasound leadership and radiologists. The role requires independent judgment, integrity, and initiative.

Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification, and Experience

• Completion of an accredited Medical Sonography program.
• Current BLS certification.
• ARDMS registration with ABD or OB/GYN and Vascular, or RVT Registry-eligible with certification within one year.
• Preferred: One year of experience as a Sonographer.
• Willingness to train in Breast Imaging.

Required Skills and Aptitudes

• In-depth knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
• Ability to produce and evaluate quality images.
• Knowledge of abdomen, gynecology, superficial parts, and vascular anatomy.
• Stays current with registry modalities (RDMS, RVT).
• Excellent customer service skills for effective communication with hospital personnel, patients, and community groups.

Responsibilities

• Interpret physician orders and perform scans with proper positioning.
• Provide high-quality images per department protocols.
• Assist physicians with sterile procedures like biopsies, cyst punctures, and abscess drainage.
• Relay preliminary reports to physicians or nursing units.
• Record patient data and test details.
• Operate ultrasound equipment and workstations.
• Offer physical and emotional support to patients.
• Transport and assist patients during procedures.
• Coordinate with nursing and physician offices for test preparations and clarifications.
• Perform ultrasound procedures under radiologist supervision.
• Report test volumes and trends.
• Attend mandatory meetings and training.
• Maintain and clean equipment.
• Stay updated with ultrasound advancements.
• Perform vascular exams such as venous, arterial, carotid, and mappings under supervision.
