Job summary

Queens Community House (QCH) is seeking a Content Specialist for our Youth Development Center after-school programs. This part-time role supports curriculum development and project-based learning, and helps staff deliver engaging educational experiences for elementary and middle school youth after school.

You will promote positive youth development, coach staff, and ensure lesson plans align with NYS standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Classroom teaching experience with elementary and/or middle school students is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of New York State Common Core Standards and curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of project-based learning and positive youth development practices.
  • Exceptional coaching, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum & Program Quality: Ensure project-based learning and positive youth development across activities; align curriculum with NYS standards; submit end-of-cycle reports.
  • Staff Coaching & Development: Observe staff, provide feedback, model lessons, maintain coaching logs, conduct quarterly on-site PD.
  • Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities: Build relations with school partners; attend meetings and trainings; contribute to quality improvement.

About the RoleQCH's Youth Development Centers provide comprehensive, year-round services for elementary and middle school youth, including after-school, holiday, and summer programming.Our programs help young people explore their interests, build positive relationships, contribute to their communities, become lifelong learners, and gain meaningful experiences.As a Content Specialist, you will help ensure youth receive engaging, high-quality educational and enrichment experiences. You'll support curriculum development and implementation, coach and develop program staff, and promote project-based learning and positive youth development practices. What You'll Do Curriculum & Program QualityEnsure youth experience project-based learning and creative youth development best practices across program activities.Ensure after-school clubs complement school-day academic and enrichment programming.Ensure curriculum and instruction align with New York State Common Core State Standards and applicable Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) contractual benchmarks.Identify and support age-appropriate curricula, lessons, and projects.Ensure lesson plans and projects include clear learning objectives and are developmentally appropriate.Demonstrate and model positive youth development principles.Assist with implementation of academic and/or social-emotional learning (SEL) assessment systems.Submit end-of-cycle summary reports documenting student achievements to the After-School Program Director. Staff Coaching & DevelopmentObserve Activity Specialists and Group Leaders weekly.Provide constructive feedback and coaching to strengthen instructional practices.Model lessons and instructional strategies as needed.Maintain observation and feedback logs documenting coaching and support provided.Plan and facilitate staff development focused on instructional strategies, classroom management, youth engagement, and other relevant topics.Provide quarterly on-site professional development.Participate in weekly staff meetings and individual coaching. Collaboration & Professional ResponsibilitiesDevelop productive relationships with school partners.Collaborate with the After-School Program Director and program staff to strengthen program quality.Attend required meetings, trainings, workshops, and organization-wide events.Stay informed about effective youth development, instructional, and project-based learning practices.Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of program and organizational needs.
