Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Content Moderator - EdTech based in the United States. This is a mission-driven opportunity to help protect students by reviewing potentially harmful online activity identified by AI-powered safety technology. You will combine careful content analysis, contextual judgment, and crisis-response skills to distinguish everyday student behavior from situations requiring urgent intervention. Working remotely, you will monitor a live alert queue and help ensure high-risk incidents are assessed and escalated within strict response times. Your work will provide school safety teams with the context they need to respond effectively to potential self-harm, suicide, violence, and other serious risks. The role sits at the intersection of technology, education, digital safety, and human judgment. It offers the opportunity to develop deep expertise in student safety, crisis management, and online behavior analysis while making a tangible difference in students’ lives. The position follows a Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:00 PM Central Time schedule, with some flexibility possible.

Accountabilities
  • Review online activity flagged by AI for potentially harmful, concerning, or high-risk content and determine the appropriate level of intervention.
  • Analyze student activity histories and surrounding context to distinguish normal behavior, curiosity, and emerging concerns from situations requiring urgent action.
  • Monitor a real-time alert queue continuously and ensure critical incidents are reviewed, documented, and escalated within required response timelines.
  • Execute established crisis-response and emergency communication protocols for incidents involving potential self-harm, suicide, violence, or other serious safety concerns.
  • Communicate professionally and clearly with school districts and safety personnel through email and phone when intervention is required.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of investigations, decisions, communications, escalation steps, and outcomes within internal support systems.
  • Apply education, behavioral, psychological, crisis-intervention, or related domain knowledge to assess student activity accurately and consistently.
  • Interpret social media trends, digital culture, slang, and online behaviors to provide appropriate context when evaluating potentially concerning activity.
  • Identify recurring student behavior patterns and emerging digital trends and contribute insights that improve safety processes, documentation, and technology.
  • Maintain consistently high standards for accuracy, response time, documentation quality, and queue management in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate with internal student safety teams and other stakeholders to ensure effective handling of complex or sensitive cases.
  • Progress toward becoming a trusted subject matter expert in digital student safety, online risk assessment, and crisis-response workflows.
Requirements
  • Experience in a relevant field such as education, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, crisis intervention, social-emotional learning, content moderation, or text/call hotline services.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting children, students, or vulnerable populations, particularly in situations involving behavioral, emotional, or safety concerns.
  • Previous crisis intervention, counseling, behavioral support, hotline, or similar high-pressure experience is highly valuable.
  • Strong analytical judgment and the ability to evaluate online content in context rather than relying solely on individual words, phrases, or isolated incidents.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of concentration and accuracy while managing a continuous, real-time queue and multiple potentially sensitive cases.
  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly and follow established escalation and emergency communication procedures during high-risk situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate sensitive information clearly, professionally, and empathetically.
  • Strong understanding of social media, online culture, current digital trends, and youth-oriented language and slang.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional when reviewing sensitive or potentially distressing content.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation, follow-through, and procedural compliance.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.
  • Bilingual proficiency is valuable for supporting real-time safety communication and broader student populations.
  • Ability to learn specialized AI safety tools, internal software, emergency protocols, and workflows quickly.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Central Time; some schedule flexibility may be possible.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States or United Kingdom for any employer.
Benefits
  • Compensation of up to $55,000, depending on background and experience.
  • 100% fully remote work environment.
  • Monday-Friday daytime schedule with some flexibility possible.
  • Unlimited vacation/flexible time off.
  • 13 paid holidays, plus a full paid holiday break around Christmas and New Year.
  • 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave for birth, adoption, or fostering.
  • Company-sponsored medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and access to mental health and wellbeing resources.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching.
  • Tax-advantaged HSA/FSA spending accounts.
  • $1,000 annual professional development stipend to support ongoing learning and career growth.
  • Perks and discounts through a dedicated employee discount platform, including savings on travel, electronics, fitness memberships, and more.
  • Opportunity to develop specialized expertise in student safety, crisis intervention, AI-powered content moderation, and digital risk assessment.
  • Mission-driven, people-first remote culture focused on trust, accountability, and meaningful impact.
