Job description

Content Marketing Manager - Cybersecurity & AI Growth Role — Remote

This Content Marketing Manager role at HackerOne sits at a compelling intersection of editorial craft, SEO/AEO strategy, and AI-augmented content production — a skill combination that is increasingly rare and highly valued in B2B tech marketing.

Compensation context: No salary is listed, but Content Marketing Managers at Series D+ or growth-stage cybersecurity companies in the U.S. typically earn $100,000–$140,000 annually, with equity on top. HackerOne's hub cities (San Francisco, Seattle) have higher cost-of-living benchmarks, which may push total comp toward the upper end.

  • Ownership of flagship annual research reports is a high-visibility deliverable that builds a strong portfolio piece and industry credibility.
  • Working on AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is a forward-looking, emerging skill as AI search transforms discoverability — early expertise here is a career differentiator.
  • The explicit encouragement to use AI tools positions you at the front of the evolving content workflow, valuable across future roles.

Culture signals: HackerOne appears to be a mid-to-late-stage growth company (well-known clients, Gartner recognition), suggesting some process maturity but still room for individual impact. The role is broad — blog management, research, SEO, style guide ownership — which suggests a lean team where you'll wear multiple hats.

Green flags: Unlimited PTO, equity, strong brand name in cybersecurity, cutting-edge subject matter. Watch for: No salary transparency and a broad scope that could stretch a single person thin without strong prioritization support.

HackerOne is a global leader in Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM) and the only solution provider that pairs the simultaneous trust of the Fortune 500 and the world's largest community of security researchers to secure the AI-native enterprise. The H1 Platform unites agentic AI solutions with security researchers' ingenuity to continuously discover, validate, prioritize, and remediate exposures across code, cloud, and AI systems. Through solutions such as agentic and human offensive security testing, AI red teaming, code security, validation, and remediation, HackerOne delivers measurable, continuous reduction of cyber risk for enterprises.

Industry leaders, including Anthropic, Crypto.com , General Motors, Goldman Sachs, Lufthansa, Uber, UK Ministry of Defence, and the U.S. Department of Defense, trust HackerOne to safeguard their digital ecosystems. HackerOne was recognized in Gartner's Emerging Tech Impact Radar: AI Cybersecurity Ecosystem report for its leadership in AI Security Testing.

Remote role for candidates located in HackerOne's Hubs:

  • Seattle, Washington, U.S.
  • Austin, Texas, U.S.
  • Washington, D.C., U.S.

Position Summary

At HackerOne, great content starts with a great story. It's how we make complex cybersecurity topics understandable, turn original research into insights people remember, and build trust with security leaders.

As our Content Marketing Manager, you'll help find and tell those stories. You'll lead key parts of our content program, including the HackerOne blog, annual research, search optimization, and editorial standards. You'll work with experts across HackerOne to uncover interesting ideas, find the story in the data, and turn technical expertise into content that is clear, useful, and worth reading.

This role is part editor, part storyteller, and part content strategist. You'll bring strong editorial judgment, curiosity, and an audience-first mindset to what we create, while using data, search insights, and AI tools to help our content reach the right people and make a measurable impact.

What You Will Do

  • Manage the HackerOne blog, including the editorial calendar, story development, publishing, optimization, and performance tracking.
  • Lead the development of HackerOne's annual research and flagship reports, finding the strongest stories in our data and working with internal experts and partners to turn those insights into compelling narratives.
  • Find stories across HackerOne by interviewing subject matter experts, asking the right questions, and identifying perspectives that can strengthen our thought leadership.
  • Turn complex cybersecurity topics into clear, engaging content for security leaders without losing the substance or expertise behind them.
  • Help execute our answer engine optimization (AEO) and search engine optimization (SEO) strategy, using search data and audience insights to identify opportunities and improve content performance.
  • Maintain and apply HackerOne's Style Guide to ensure our content is clear, consistent, and distinctly HackerOne.
  • Manage the content intake process, helping teams sharpen ideas, prioritize requests, and move strong stories from concept to publication.
  • Multiply the impact of our best stories by adapting content for campaigns, social media, and audience engagement.
  • Measure content performance and use those insights to understand what resonates with our audience and inform what we create next.
  • Use AI tools throughout the content process to support research, idea development, drafting, editing, optimization, and repurposing — while maintaining strong human editorial judgment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in content marketing, editorial, journalism, or a related role.
  • A strong storyteller with demonstrated experience finding an interesting angle, building a clear narrative, and making complex subjects engaging and accessible.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and interviewing skills, with strong editorial judgment and attention to detail.
  • Experience developing research-driven content, reports, or thought leadership and turning data and expert insights into stories for a specific audience.
  • Experience managing a content program, publication, or editorial calendar.
  • Experience with SEO and/or AEO, including keyword research, content optimization, and performance measurement.
  • Experience using AI tools to support content creation, research, optimization, or other marketing workflows.
  • Strong collaboration and project management skills, with the ability to work across teams and bring ideas from concept to publication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating content for B2B technology, cybersecurity, or another technical industry.
  • A background in journalism, editorial, research, or another field where interviewing and story development are core skills.
  • Familiarity with content and search performance tools such as Google Analytics, SEMrush, or similar tools.
  • Experience adapting stories and content for social media and other marketing channels.
  • Experience partnering with product marketing, demand generation, communications, or product teams.
  • Curiosity about how search, AI, and changing audience behaviors are reshaping content and storytelling.
  • Health (medical, vision, dental), life, and disability insurance*
  • Equity stock options
  • Paid public holidays and unlimited PTO
  • Paid maternity and parental leave
  • Leaves of absence (including caregiver leave and leave under CO's Healthy Families and Workplaces Act)
  • Employee Assistance Program
