Responsibilities

  • Coordinate marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives for Thornton.
  • Develop and execute Thornton's social media strategy across platforms, including planning, content creation, engagement, and analytics.
  • Monitor and evaluate marketing initiatives using analytics to improve engagement and effectiveness.
  • Maintain integrated marketing calendars for campaigns and key initiatives.
  • Coordinate design, production, and distribution of print and digital materials.
  • Draft, edit, and proofread content for announcements, newsletters, press releases, and web content.
  • Ensure consistent brand standards across communications and marketing materials.
  • Develop reports and analyze performance metrics to evaluate digital content and audience growth.

The USC Thornton School of Music seeks a collaborative, creative, and highly organized Communication & Digital Content Coordinator to support strategic communications, marketing initiatives, and audience engagement efforts across the school. This position plays a key role in promoting academic programs, performances, events, faculty accomplishments, student success, and institutional priorities through compelling storytelling, effective project management, and coordinated outreach efforts.

Reporting to school leadership, the Communication & Digital Content Coordinator partners with faculty, staff, university colleagues, and external vendors to develop and implement communications strategies that enhance visibility, strengthen community engagement, and support the school's mission. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator who enjoys managing multiple projects, creating engaging content, and building relationships across diverse constituencies.

Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications
  • Coordinate and implement marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives that promote school programs, events, performances, services, and strategic priorities.
  • In partnership with department leadership, develop and execute Thornton's social media strategy across multiple platforms, including editorial planning, content creation, community engagement, and performance analytics. Execute campaigns that highlight student achievement, faculty excellence, academic programs, performances, and institutional priorities.
  • Monitor and evaluate marketing and outreach initiatives, using analytics and audience insights to recommend strategies that improve engagement and effectiveness.
  • Maintain integrated marketing and communications calendars to ensure the timely execution of campaigns, projects, and key initiatives.
Content Development & Brand Management
  • Coordinate the design, production, and distribution of print and digital communications materials, including brochures, flyers, advertisements, signage, presentations, web content, social media assets, and event collateral.
  • Draft, edit, and proofread content for a variety of communications, including announcements, newsletters, promotional materials, press releases, website content, and social media.
  • Ensure consistent application of university and school brand standards, messaging, and visual identity across all communications and marketing materials.
  • Develop reports and analyze performance metrics to evaluate digital content, social media engagement, audience growth, and brand awareness.
Project & Vendor Coordination
  • Serve as a liaison between internal stakeholders and external creative service products, including designers, photographers, videographers, printers, and media representatives.
  • Manage project timelines, production schedules, and deliverables to ensure high-quality work is completed on time.
  • Support vendor engagement, procurement activities, contracts, and licensing agreements, as assigned.
Research, Assessment & Budget Support
  • Conduct audience research, surveys, and other assessment activities to inform communications and marketing strategies.
  • Analyze campaign performance, audience engagement, and other communications metrics, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Support budget planning by tracking marketing expenditures and assisting with budget development.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and briefing materials to support leadership decision-making and strategic planning.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong aptitude for storytelling.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Understanding of social media strategy, audience engagement, digital communication, and brand stewardship.
  • Ability to interpret analytics and performance metrics to inform communication strategies.
  • Collaborative, proactive, and relationship-oriented, with sound judgment and attention to detail.

Salary Hiring Range:

The hourly base salary range for this position is $29.00 - 33.00 per hour.

When extending an offer of employment, USC considers factors including experience, education, skills, internal equity, applicable laws, and organizational needs.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 2 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Marketing, publications, public relations, business administration, communication, advertising or related field experience. Knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
