Job description

Summary
Philadelphia United Methodist Church is a vibrant congregation located in a growing suburban setting near Charlotte, NC. We are currently seeking to hire a part-time Contemporary Worship Leader to work in cooperation with our Pastor to oversee all aspects of music and related arts for the contemporary worship service. In addition, the successful candidate will help plan and implement programs including occasional special worship events in accordance with the practices of the United Methodist Church. The successful candidate will exude passion for authentic Christian worship and provide vocal and musical leadership that fosters a spiritually uplifting contemporary worship experience, drawing the congregation into the presence of God.
Qualifications:

• Must have creative vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement all aspects of music for the contemporary worship service.
• Ability to exemplify a lead singing voice with the ability to lead and engage the congregation in worship using contemporary Christian music.
• Demonstrate musical ability with experience playing an instrument and having the ability to lead and recruit instrumentalists for the band.
• Experience in contemporary worship as a leader or member of a worship music team.
• A general knowledge of all aspects of worship ministry including sound, audiovisual, lighting and production.

Responsibilities Include:

• Directing the contemporary band, including leading the group through all songs during worship service and special programs.
• Leading the congregation through greetings, prayers, transitions and singing to facilitate praise and connection with God through worship.
• Scheduling and leading contemporary band rehearsals.
• Selecting songs for contemporary worship services, collaborating with the Pastor and communicating with the church office to ensure all elements of the service are coordinated e.g. the message/song choices/visuals.
• Oversee set-up and tear-down of sound equipment before and after contemporary rehearsals, worship services and special programs and work closely with A/V volunteers and staff.
• Preparing music in advance of rehearsals, and continually seeking out new songs for contemporary service.
• Recruiting new singers and musicians including youth, into the band as needed to ensure a vibrant contemporary worship ministry and developing a qualified alternate leader to lead worship when needed.

Accountability

• Must embrace Christian discipline and United Methodist doctrine and theology and serve as a positive role model in a Christian environment.
• Work in cooperation with all ministry staff and volunteer leaders of the church.
• Subject to background checks as required by the church’s Safe Sanctuary policy

Accountable to the Pastor of Philadelphia United Methodist Church and the Staff Parish Relations Team.

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: From $19,000.00 per year
