St. Paul’s Evangelical Free Church, Creve Coeur, Missouri, seeks to fill a full-time position for Contemporary Worship Director as described below. Job Description:

The Contemporary Worship Director, in cooperation with the lead pastor, staff and lay volunteers, coordinates the talent and resources of the church to lead and provide music for contemporary style worship services. The contemporary worship director is a ministry leader and contributes to the spiritual health and mission of St. Paul’s. Position responsibilities include planning of a weekly contemporary worship service, oversight and direction of a contemporary worship music team, audio-visual components of all worship services and leading aspects of the worship services. This may include occasional teaching as designated by the lead pastor.

This is a full-time ministry position, is defined as program staff and reports to the lead pastor.

Responsibilities:
  • Direct and administer a weekly contemporary worship service and the contemporary music program of the church.
  • Handle audio-visual technology and presentations in support of worship services and church events.
  • Recruit and develop members of the worship team, providing mature Christian leadership and encouraging them in their personal faith and musical skills development.
  • Work with the lead pastor on a weekly basis to develop a coordinated order of worship for contemporary worship services that integrates music with the teaching, bringing the full message of God’s Word to the congregation.
  • In addition to music, lead elements of worship such as opening call to worship, prayer, and scripture as desired by the lead pastor.
  • Provide spiritual leadership and shepherding to the worship team and broader congregation.
  • Lead weekly rehearsals of the worship team.
  • Plan and select music based upon the message of the worship service and the abilities of the musicians.
  • As directed by the lead pastor, coordinate and collaborate with the traditional music director on the overall music program at St. Paul’s, including plans for music in support of holidays, Lenten services, church events or special performances. Plan for the adult choir and the worship team to occasionally combine.
  • Coordinate the required support from the audio-visual team for worship services and rehearsals.
  • Lead worship music for the youth program.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and otherwise take part fully as a member of the ministry staff.
  • Develop and implement a personal plan for continued professional growth/training.
  • Initiate and implement new ideas for worship in coordination with the lead pastor.
  • Adjust music presentations and worship elements as more experience with the contemporary worship service is gained and input is received from congregants.
  • Participate in other worship activities during the week.
  • Actively take part in the life of St. Paul’s church.
Skills Required:
  • A heart for worship, mature Christian faith and a desire to lead the congregation into the presence of the Lord.
  • Strong musicianship and leadership abilities to direct musical ensembles with the goal of elevating the skills and standards of performance of the group. Experience in leading contemporary worship services and groups is desired.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary worship trends.
  • Ability to organize, develop and lead worship in a meaningful way, creatively incorporating the musical ensembles of the church into the worship service.
  • Strong understanding of audio-visual technology and applications.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • An undergraduate degree in music or worship is desired but not required.
  • A master of divinity is desired but not required.

About this Church

St. Paul’s Evangelical Free Church is a congregation of 150 active members located in Creve Coeur, Missouri. The church currently has one weekly worship service on Sunday morning with a blended style of both traditional and contemporary music elements. The main sanctuary is home to a 29-rank pipe organ, two grand pianos and supporting audio equipment. The church is seeking a full-time contemporary worship director to develop a new, additional weekly worship service dedicated to a contemporary music worship style.
