Job description

Contamination Modeling and Aerospace Engineer

The Opportunity:

You’ll support the client by tackling the challenges of contamination of spacecraft and other assets by modeling the complex interactions between dust particles, the space environment, and spacecraft. To do so, they develop and use advanced computational modeling tools and techniques.

As a contamination engineer on the Team, you will be responsible for developing physics-based frameworks that quantify volatile release, surface deposition, and contaminant transport across spacecraft systems. This work centers on building computational capabilities to support development of space hardware and systems. As a senior engineer, you will architect and implement computational approaches, guide strategy, and mentor junior staff.

Join us. The world can’t wait.

You Have:
  • 6+ years of experience of modeling and simulation of materials outgassing and spacecraft contamination
  • Experience developing and maintaining software to implement analytical and computational models, and developing modeling framework for spacecraft material outgassing and contaminant transport, utilizing direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) or numerical methods
  • Experience with quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) data and experimental design, per ASTM 1559, and with utilizing data for model validation
  • Experience with contamination-related industry standards such as ASTM 1548, ISO-14644, and IEST-STD-CC1246
  • Experience with FEA or CFD, such as STAR-CCM+, Ansys Mechanical, Ansys Thermal Desktop, or Loci-Chem
  • Experience in data processing and statistical techniques, programming in Python or C++, and writing technical documentation or scientific publications
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned tasks
  • Ability to work in both a team and independent environment
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Master’s degree in a Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Applied Physics, or Materials Science field
Nice If You Have:
  • Experience applying machine learning (ML) to solving engineering problems and with modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch or Tensorflow
  • Experience developing simulations using NVIDIA Warp or CUDA Python
  • Experience working with Linux environments
  • Experience producing original research
  • Experience working with U.S. Government clients
  • Possession of strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Secret clearance
  • Doctorate degree in Engineering or a related field
