Position Summary
A Driver – CDL(A) is responsible for safely operating a heavy commercial truck, tractor trailer or straight truck with a pup trailer, or other vehicle requiring a ClassA CDL to provide prompt and courteous delivery and removal of large containers. The driver ensures the vehicle complies with company safety standards, adheres to all applicable regulations, and completes vehicle condition reports (VCRs) daily to address defects promptly.
Principal Responsibilities
- Perform complete pre‑ and post‑operation inspections of the vehicle to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are in proper working order.
- Report any safety issues on standard reports.
- Safely operate the heavy truck along designated routes, read route sheets, follow maps, and service each customer as identified or assigned by dispatch.
- Operate manual or automatic controls to lift and load refuse, operate compactor, and dispose of collected material at the designated facility.
- Courteously interact with customers, dispatchers, and others to ensure all routes are serviced in a timely and professional manner.
- Perform minor repairs to containers on site or in the container yard.
- Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag them in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste.
- Clean area around an accidental waste spill, ensuring adherence to all safety standards.
- Monitor vehicle condition to remain operationally ready and minimize downtime; clean waste from containers and edges on each disposal trip.
- Complete required route/productivity sheets, VCRs, and other reports as required.
- Maintain adherence to required productivity and safety standards for the department.
- Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in the Company’s ReSOP program.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Good customer service skills, professional, courteous, and cooperative toward customers and co‑workers.
- Good time management skills to complete responsibilities safely and efficiently.
- Good follow‑through ability; adheres to work schedule and addresses challenges promptly.
- Ability to adhere to company policies and safety standards; does not take inappropriate risks.
- Maintains pride in work and strives to achieve goals.
- Two years of prior experience driving commercial trucks preferred.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude to perform minor repairs to containers.
Minimum Requirements
ClassA Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes endorsement.
