Job description

General Function:

This role involves providing engineering support for the design and development of containers, primarily for the beverage industry, including related metal-forming tooling (e.g., Cupper, Bodymaker, Necking Dies, Knockouts, Internal Base Reforming, Flanger, and BCMS). The candidate will support R&D activities and should have experience in research, product development, physical testing, data analysis, detailed design, bill of materials, engineering change orders, technical reporting, and engineering drawing creation. Domestic and international travel will be required.

Primary Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain awareness of Belvac's Quality Management System relevant to job duties.
  2. Collaborate with R&D engineers to develop new metal container products and optimize existing designs and tooling.
  3. Create engineering drawings using AutoDesk Inventor Professional.
  4. Conduct value engineering to meet cost targets while maintaining or improving functionality.
  5. Generate Bills of Materials and manage Engineering Change Orders.
  6. Support Purchasing and Production Control with tooling design inquiries.
  7. Assist in building and commissioning new machinery, addressing tooling-related issues.
  8. Develop and implement SOPs for container and tooling development, including statistical analysis for testing.
  9. Provide technical support to global customers for production issues.
  10. Support the Belvac Integration team with container design and technical documentation for quotations.
  11. Maintain project and product documentation, ensuring compliance with standards like ISO 9001-2015.
  12. Assist in tooling trials and preform formation processes in the R&D lab.
  13. Contribute to continuous improvement of Belvac's product line.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Education:

BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related technical field.

Skills and Experience:
Required:
  • Experience in container design for the beverage industry and related tooling.
  • Proficiency in mechanical design, problem solving, and 3D modeling software.
  • Knowledge of simulation methods, CFD modeling, and physical testing validation.
  • Ability to apply statistical analysis and develop technical reports.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and understand shop fabrication and safety standards.
  • Support during machine buyoff, customer commissioning, and documentation updates.
Desired:
  • Experience in can-making tooling design (Cupper, Bodymaker, Necker, Flanger, Reformer).
  • Familiarity with quality tools like FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, SPC.
  • Experience with machine shop tools, CNC machining, and programming is a plus.
