Construction Manager - Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead and oversee facility renovation, infrastructure upgrade, and equipment installation projects within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for managing construction activities in active production facilities, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with site quality, GMP, and operational requirements.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial construction, facility upgrades, utilities, and contractor management, with experience working in manufacturing environments that require strict environmental controls such as cleanrooms, packaging areas, and regulated production spaces.
Key Responsibilities
Construction & Project Management
- Manage and oversee construction, renovation, and retrofit projects within pharmaceutical manufacturing and support facilities.
- Coordinate all phases of construction activities, from planning and scheduling through execution and closeout.
- Lead facility upgrade projects involving:
- Floors, walls, and ceilings
- Electrical infrastructure and power distribution systems
- Mechanical systems and plant utilities
- HVAC systems and environmental controls
- Cleanroom and controlled-environment improvements
- Ensure construction work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to quality standards.
Pharmaceutical Facility & Utilities Management
- Support facility modifications required for new manufacturing and packaging equipment installations.
- Coordinate utility infrastructure requirements including electrical, HVAC, compressed air, and other facility support systems.
- Work closely with engineering, facilities, maintenance, validation, and manufacturing teams to minimize operational disruptions during construction activities.
- Ensure projects support pharmaceutical manufacturing requirements, including environmental control, cleanliness, and operational continuity.
Contractor & Vendor Management
- Manage general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and trade partners across multiple disciplines.
- Coordinate day-to-day field activities to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to project schedules.
- Conduct site inspections, monitor progress, and resolve field issues in a timely manner.
- Review contractor performance and ensure compliance with safety and site requirements.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce safe construction practices within active pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
- Ensure compliance with site safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Support change management, permitting, and quality processes associated with construction activities in regulated environments.
- Maintain documentation related to construction progress, safety observations, and project execution.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 5-10+ years of experience in construction management, facilities engineering, utilities, or industrial project execution within manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated experience managing indoor renovation, retrofit, or facility improvement projects.
- Proven success leading construction projects in active manufacturing or production facilities.
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of:
- Building construction and facility infrastructure
- Electrical systems and power distribution
- Mechanical systems and plant utilities
- HVAC systems and environmental controls
- Interior facility upgrades and renovations
- Experience supporting facility modifications for manufacturing or packaging equipment installations.
- Ability to assess construction impacts within operating production environments.
Leadership & Communication
- Strong contractor and subcontractor management experience.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and coordination skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, operations, facilities, maintenance, and quality teams.
- Hands‑on, field‑oriented leadership style with a strong presence on the production floor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, food & beverage, or other regulated manufacturing industries.
- Familiarity with cleanrooms, controlled manufacturing environments, or facilities requiring humidity and environmental controls.
- Experience supporting packaging line installations or packaging operations.
- Knowledge of GMP‑regulated environments.
- OSHA certification or demonstrated OSHA safety knowledge preferred.
- Experience with facility upgrades supporting pharmaceutical production and packaging operations.
Work Environment
- Primarily on‑site role within a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
- Significant time spent in active production, utility, and construction areas.
- Frequent interaction with contractors, subcontractors, engineering teams, facilities personnel, and manufacturing operations.
- Work will involve renovations and upgrades within clean and controlled manufacturing environments while maintaining operational continuity.
Compensation
Estimated Salary Range: $75,000 - $150,000 annually
Compensation will be commensurate with experience, technical expertise, construction management capabilities, and knowledge of manufacturing or pharmaceutical facility environments.
