Duties
  • Ensure regulated establishments produce safe products by executing inspection methods, identifying non-compliance, documenting issues, and initiating enforcement actions if necessary.
  • Verify that meat and poultry establishments' Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Plans meet regulatory standards.
  • Implement SSOP and HACCP plans effectively to prevent unsanitary conditions and product adulteration.
  • Review records, observe operations, and conduct verification to ensure compliance, documenting non-compliance when found.
  • Determine when regulatory control actions are necessary, assess corrective and preventive measures, and evaluate trends or enforcement needs.
  • Conduct oversight activities related to consumer protections, such as economic adulteration and misbranding.
  • Communicate with plant managers and owners to explain legal and regulatory requirements and discuss food safety programs.
  • Discuss non-compliance issues and plans for resolution with relevant parties.
  • Collaborate with other inspectors and agency personnel on inspection and enforcement matters.
  • Perform sampling, surveys, and tests to gather data on industry trends and potential issues.
  • Conduct health and safety verification sampling for microbes, residues, or contaminants.
  • Ensure imported products comply with federal regulations and authorize or refuse entry accordingly.
  • Coordinate with other federal agencies on related matters.
Requirements
  • Submit a resume documenting 52 weeks of specialized experience.
  • Complete required training within specified timeframes.
  • Obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
  • Be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and pass a medical exam.
  • Complete necessary forms and verifications, including E-Verify and background checks.
Qualifications

One year of specialized experience or equivalent education is required, demonstrating skills in sampling, reporting, and effective communication. The experience should be in roles related to food inspection, quality control, or sanitation in relevant environments. Volunteer experience is also credited.
