Job summary

Ultimate Staffing in San Jose, CA is seeking a Consumer Loan Underwriter to evaluate and approve consumer loan applications while balancing sound credit decisions with customer experience.

This full-time role offers a hybrid work arrangement, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–6:00 PM, with occasional overtime; pay ranges from $33.65 to $45.67 per hour.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of consumer loan underwriting experience.
• Experience underwriting direct and indirect consumer loans.
• Strong credit analysis and risk assessment skills.
• Experience working within a bank, credit union, or financial institution.
• Ability to analyze financial information and make sound lending decisions.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite direct and indirect consumer loan applications.
• Analyze credit, income, collateral, debt, and overall risk.
• Make loan decisions within assigned lending authority.
• Recommend exceptions and approvals outside authorization limits.
• Identify solutions that help applicants qualify when appropriate.
• Review complex loan requests and financial documentation.
• Ensure compliance with lending policies and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with lending and branch teams to support loan growth.
• Provide guidance and support to team members on underwriting decisions.
• Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and service.

What You'll Do

Consumer Loan Underwriter
