Job summary

Arizona Financial Credit Union is seeking an experienced Consumer Loan Origination Specialist to originate loans by phone and improve cross-sell opportunities while delivering excellent member service. You will analyze credit reports to determine creditworthiness, originate equity loans, and coordinate with underwriting and servicing teams to hand off approved applications.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED plus 1 year of consumer lending experience in a financial institution.
  • Proficiency with Windows applications, accurate typing 45 wpm, and 10-key entry.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; clear communication with members.
  • Must register as an MLO (NMLS) and maintain registration.

Responsibilities

  • Handle loan-by-phone inquiries with strong member service focus.
  • Know consumer loan options (personal, secured, auto, equity, etc.).
  • Analyze credit reports to assess debt-to-income and creditworthiness.
  • Originate equity loans and identify first mortgage opportunities.
  • Process and fund applicable loan types and hand off approved applications to loan officers.
  • Coordinate with underwriting, servicing, and branches to support member relationships.

Job Summary Overview

The position is responsible for originating Consumer Loan applications via phone with an emphasis on capturing additional loan opportunities that create mutual benefit.

Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for managing all loan by phone questions with a heightened focus on service to members.
  • Maintains in depth knowledge of all consumer loan options including but not limited to: personal, share secured, auto, boat, recreational vehicles, business visa’s, and equity loans
  • Obtains and analyzes credit reports to determine member’s debt to income ratio and creditworthiness.
  • Originates equity loans and identify and refer 1st Mortgage business opportunities.
  • Processes and funds applications on applicable loan types, including but not limited to personal loans and shared secured loans.
  • Creates an exceptional handoff to a consumer loan officer for further processing of an approved application.
  • Acts as a relationship manager between Consumer Underwriting, Consumer Lending Servicing, Retail Branches and Equity Servicing team.
  • Performs all necessary queue management tasks throughout the day.
  • Completes service calls and/or other outbound efforts.
  • Performs all necessary follow-up communications with new or existing members electronically or by phone, to secure a mutually beneficial relationship.
  • Fosters strong relationships and help with the following:
  • Identifies additional opportunities to strengthen member relationships.
  • Business Partner Referrals.
  • Outbound Sales on targeted member opportunities.
  • Demonstrates habits and behaviors consistent with brand guidelines, aimed at becoming the members’ lender of choice.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Position Required Qualifications

High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and one (1) year experience in a financial institution with consumer lending experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of computers and standard Windows software applications. Ability to type 45 words per minute. Ability to perform 10-key accurately. Ability to read, write, speak, and use proper grammar in English. Must register as an MLO. Ability to communicate in person, on the telephone, and through written business correspondence. Ability to interpret and analyze written reports, instructions, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively to members regarding sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, decimals, and common fractions. Ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages. Ability to make decision based on training, commonsense understanding, and guidelines.

Licenses, Training, and Certifications Required

In compliance with the federal Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing (S.A.F.E.) Act of 2008, Arizona Federal employees acting as Mortgage Loan Originators (MLO) must be registered with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS). Prior to performing MLO duties, the registration process requires that applicants and/or current employees:

  1. electronically apply for registration, providing personal and employment information;
  2. submit fingerprints to the NMLS for an FBI criminal background check, and
  3. receive clearance from Arizona Federal regarding that FBI background check.

Applicants with certain criminal convictions, including but not limited to crimes involving dishonesty or fraud, or crimes involving financial services or a financial service-related business, may not qualify for the MLO designation.

After successful registration, employees may perform the MLO functions. To maintain MLO registration and the ability to perform these functions, they must:

  1. renew registration on an annual basis, and
  2. update any changes to his/her registration information as needed.

The MLO’s registration and employment status will be available to the public on the NMLS Registry.

  • MLOs routinely handle confidential member information and have strict requirements for maintaining the confidentiality and non-disclosure of that information.
Preferred Qualifications

Six (6) months call center experience. One (1) year experience as a Personal Banker at Arizona Federal.

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Frequently required to sit.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger keys accurately when using calculator machines or computer keyboards; reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
