Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and manage complex enforcement cases; well-developed oral and written communication skills; and the ability to interact effectively with state/federal government officials, a diverse workforce, and the general public.
  • Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of litigation experience in state and federal courts, concentrating on consumer credit or consumer protection matters.
  • Must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, investigate, and prosecute suspected violations of state and federal consumer lending statutes, including payday/short-term loans, motor vehicle title loans, consumer finance loans, mortgage loans, mortgage servicing, and foreclosure rescue services.
  • Collaborate with the State Corporation Commission, Bureau of Financial Institutions, and federal consumer protection agencies on referred matters; provide legal advice to the Office of Charitable and Regulatory Programs; assist in drafting official opinions; review proposed legislation; and work with counterparts in other states.
