Job summary

10x Genomics is seeking an outstanding Consumables NPI Engineer 3 to join the Manufacturing Systems Engineering (MSE) team. This role focuses on transferring new plastic components to volume manufacturing and sustaining on-market products.

You will collaborate with Microfluidics, Supply Chain, and R&D; own part release, BOM management, and WIN documentation; ensure quality compliance and process improvements.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Plastics, or Industrial Engineering.
• 6+ years (BS) or 4+ years (MS) in manufacturing or NPI engineering, ideally biotech or medical devices.
• Experience with PLM/ERP for BOM/part structures and part release (Arena, Oracle).
• Experience qualifying and supporting plastic molding suppliers (on-site engineering support).
• Direct experience with injection molding, LSR-thermoplastic assemblies, or precision plastics manufacturing.
• Experience authoring manufacturing documentation in quality-controlled environments.
• Familiarity with ECO/ECR processes and change management.
• Strong knowledge of 3D design, GD&T, tolerancing, and process capability (Cpk/Ppk).

Responsibilities

• Communicate NPI status, risks, and decisions to stakeholders across Operations, R&D, and Commercial teams.
• Support DFM feedback during transfer of new plastic components into manufacturing.
• Serve as the primary engineering contact for consumables suppliers during design, development and transfer.
• Partner with Supply Chain to manage supplier relationships and provide on-site support as needed.
• Support supplier corrective actions and process changes to meet yield, quality, and reliability targets.
• Own the part release process for new consumable components and assemblies (ECOs/ECRs).
• Coordinate release readiness across engineering, quality, and supply chain gates.
• Maintain revision control and documentation throughout the release lifecycle.
• Build and maintain BOM/part structures in Arena PLM and Oracle ERP.
• Structure BOMs reflecting real production and supply chain flow; troubleshoot discrepancies.
• Author and maintain WINs for consumable manufacturing and inspection processes.
• Translate engineering specs into operator-ready instructions; train operators.
• Continuously improve manufacturing documentation as processes evolve.

About the role:

We are seeking an outstanding Consumables NPI Engineer 3 to join the Manufacturing Systems Engineering (MSE) team at 10x Genomics. This is a key position for the commercialization of consumable products within the Global Operations Engineering team, and sustainment and technical stewardship of those products on-market. This multi-disciplinary position involves close collaboration with various groups including Microfluidics, Supply Chain Management, and New Product Development. You will play a key role in transferring new plastic components to volume manufacturing. This role partners with the Operations, NPI, Supplier Support, and R&D teams to improve robustness and efficiencies across multiple product lines.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in supporting complex plastic components used in on-market equipment for the life sciences or medical device industry. They should possess a broad understanding of the design and manufacturing of complex plastic systems and excel in solving complex problems.

What you will be doing:

1. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Communicate NPI status, risks, and technical decisions to stakeholders across Operations, R&D, and Commercial teams.
• Support the Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback loop with R&D during transfer of new plastic components into manufacturing.

2. Supplier Support & Qualification

• Serve as the primary engineering point of contact for consumables suppliers during design, development and transfer of new products, driving qualification activities (e.g. IQ/OQ/PQ, first-article inspection, capability studies).
• Partner with Supply Chain Management to manage supplier relationships, including on-site engineering support as needed.
• Support supplier corrective actions and process changes to ensure yield, quality, and reliability targets are met ahead of production release.
• Provide as-needed support in life cycle management to ensure sustainment of on-market products.

3. Part Release & Change Control

• Own the part release process for new consumable components and assemblies, driving parts through ECOs/ECRs and change control to production status.
• Coordinate release readiness across engineering, quality, and supply chain gates to avoid downstream disruptions.
• Maintain accurate revision control and documentation throughout the release lifecycle.

4. BOM & Part Structure

• Build and maintain BOM and part structures in Arena PLM and Oracle ERP for new consumable products, ensuring accuracy of part numbers, revisions, and where-used relationships.
• Partner with Planning and Manufacturing to structure BOMs that reflect real production and supply chain flow.
• Troubleshoot and resolve BOM/part structure discrepancies that impact production, planning, or supply chain execution.

5. Manufacturing Documentation & WIN Development

• Author and maintain Work Instructions (WINs) for consumable manufacturing and inspection processes, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with quality requirements.
• Translate engineering specifications and process knowledge into effective, operator-ready work instructions.
• Support operator training and continuous improvement of documentation as processes evolve.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education: BS/MS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Plastics, or Industrial Engineering.
• Experience: 6+ (BS) or 4+ (MS) years in manufacturing or NPI engineering, ideally within biotech, life sciences, or medical device industries.
• PLM/ERP: Demonstrated experience building BOM/part structures and managing part release using PLM (e.g. Arena) and ERP (e.g. Oracle) systems.
• Supplier Engineering: Experience qualifying and supporting suppliers (molding, machining, or assembly), including hands-on/on-site engineering support.
• Plastics: Direct experience with injection molding, LSR-thermoplastic assemblies, or precision plastics manufacturing - including direct experience in IOPQ planning and execution.
• Documentation: Experience authoring work instructions or manufacturing documentation in a quality-controlled environment.
• Change Control: Familiarity with ECO/ECR processes and engineering change management.
• Technical Foundation: Working understanding of 3D mechanical design, GD&T per ASME Y14.5, dimensional tolerancing, and process capability (Cpk/Ppk) analysis.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally across engineering, quality, and operations.

Below is the base pay range for this full-time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one’s skills, qualifications, and experience. At 10x, base pay is also just one component of the Company’s total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x’s equity grants, its comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and its annual bonus program or sales incentive program. Salary Range: $126,700- $171,500
