About The Role

The Consulting Utility Forester (CUF) 1 reports to the Senior Consulting Utility Forester at ACRT Inc. This position plays a key role in identifying, inspecting, and evaluating trees and brush along utility lines, and submitting inspection results to clients with recommendations. It involves planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of assigned tree clearance crews. This role requires a love of working outdoors, excellent attention to detail, and exceptional interpersonal communication skills.

What You'll Do

  • Identify and inspect local trees with an understanding of growth rates.
  • Map circuits using client continuity lists.
  • Patrol and investigate distribution and/or transmission circuits and prescribed work for client tree trimming contractors.
  • Enter tree trimming/tree and brush removal prescriptions into handheld systems, and use related software.
  • Notify property owners of upcoming work according to client specifications.
  • Manage work issuance and track progress.
  • Perform outage investigations when necessary.
  • Discuss and negotiate crew access issues.
  • Perform herbicide audits.
  • Assist with storm restoration efforts.

Tree Trimming Assessments

  • Audit work completed by contractors to ensure compliance with work requests and standards.
  • Determine the timing for next tree trimming.
  • Complete post-audit forms and forward them to the program manager or coordinator.

Maintain State, Local, & Organizational Compliance

  • Obtain permits and document work with public agencies.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements and client standards.
  • Perform duties for emergency response as requested, following safety and legal guidelines.
  • Adhere to attendance and work hour requirements.
  • Conduct work safely, using required safety equipment.
  • Exemplify ACRT's Guiding Principles.

Build and Maintain Relationships

  • Serve as a liaison between clients, crews, and customers.
  • Maintain positive relationships with stakeholders and participate in public meetings as needed.

About You

  • 2 or 4-year degree in Forestry, Horticulture, Environmental Science, or related field, or high school diploma plus two years of UVM experience.
  • Vegetation management experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; GIS experience is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, organized, production-oriented, and able to work independently across a geographic area.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in varied terrain and weather, with flexible hours including nights and weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
