Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range for this position is a nationwide market range, representing a broad spectrum of salaries across the country. The actual salary will depend on factors such as role scope, complexity, location, candidate skills, education, training, credentials, experience, and other employment conditions. Employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentives as part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program.

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers is seeking a Consulting Technology Engineer (CICS/IMS Systems Programmer) to join our organization as we grow and transform our technology landscape. This technical individual contributor role on the Realtime Support team involves evaluating, configuring, securing, implementing, and supporting CICS, IMS, z/OS Connect, TPX, CA GEN, EOS, and other software for multiple business groups. The ideal candidate will have experience with installing, migrating, supporting, and troubleshooting IMS, CICS, and z/OS Connect.

Under limited supervision, demonstrates comprehensive understanding of activities related to engineering support, installation, and operations of infrastructure technologies. Plans tactically and manages effective use of technology resources for projects and functions. May lead project staff to design, develop, and implement complex technology solutions supporting various business or technology areas. Develops and implements solutions involving multiple platforms, databases, software/hardware technologies, and tools. Facilitates or participates in database system design and development. Must be able to multi-task in a dynamic environment. This role may provide technical leadership to others.

What Will You Do?

  • Adhere to Travelers' change management processes regarding change windows, lead times, ServiceNow requests, and access escalation.
  • Understand Travelers' business groups and products to support business needs and availability of CICS and IMS regions.
  • Consult with business groups and tech teams on application development, new features, proof of concepts, security, etc.
  • Attend and sometimes lead monthly meetings with IBM and ISV to discuss roadmaps and incidents.
  • Connect CICS & IMS to other technologies like MQ and DB2, configure z/OS Connect for API deployment, and enable remote access for CICS and IMS.
  • Develop and test high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Occasional weekend work and after-hours on-call support.
  • Develop operational plans aligned with strategic objectives for assigned technologies and projects.
  • Drive departmental and corporate programs.
  • Leverage infrastructure technology to develop or redesign solutions.
  • Build and maintain effective alliances across technical and business communities.
  • Engage with customers to achieve effective results.
  • Prioritize and multi-task according to business priorities and production needs.
  • Serve as a technical expert within the service delivery organization and provide cross-team consultation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Knowledge of SMP/E software installation, analyzing PTFs, and maintaining software currency, including semi-annual migrations.
  • Understanding of CICS and IMS parameters for optimization and incident resolution, working with IBM and ISV providers.
  • Ability to create and migrate CICS and IMS regions, started tasks, and address spaces.
  • Supporting z/OS Connect, TPX, CA GEN, EOS, and other CICS/IMS ISV software is a plus.
  • Seven years of experience in technology preferred.
  • Two years of technical lead experience preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of infrastructure technologies (Network, Database, Server, Storage) preferred.
  • Expertise in foundational IT infrastructure, operating systems, software, process discipline, and IDLC methodology.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience, plus five years in technology; or Master’s degree with three years of experience.
