Overview

Build the foundations of a more sustainable future. As a Consulting Senior Associate, Civil Engineer at ERM, you will shape real‑world projects that support renewable energy, infrastructure resilience, and environmental remediation. The position is based in our Washington, DC office, Richmond, VA, or Philadelphia, PA, and offers hands‑on technical growth and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across North America and globally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the planning, design, permitting, and construction of site civil and remedial engineering projects, including renewable energy installations, electric transmission and distribution facilities, and site remediation projects.
  • Produce construction drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and permit applications.
  • Support project controls and management activities, including scheduling, cost estimating, labor resourcing, and progress tracking.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and project managers across disciplines and geographies.
  • Prepare site civil designs such as earthwork, grading, access roads, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management.
  • Develop construction drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and contract documents.
  • Prepare application packages for land disturbance permits, construction stormwater permits, and related construction permits; support land use permit applications.
  • Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS to develop engineering designs.
  • Conduct field investigations, construction oversight, and quality assurance activities.
  • Evaluate field data, perform calculations, and prepare engineering reports, cost estimates, schedules, and progress tracking reports.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers across site investigation, risk management, planning, design, and construction disciplines.
  • Work independently and as part of global, multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Participate in a center‑of‑excellence engineering team to develop innovative designs and oversee implementation.
Qualifications
Required
  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification in place or eligible.
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS.
  • Strong verbal, written, and computer skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
Preferred
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project, scheduling, and construction management.
  • Exposure to consulting or construction‑related project environments.
Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated annual base pay is $73,000–$93,213 (USD). Actual pay will depend on education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. The role may be eligible for bonus pay; bonus eligibility varies by employment type. A comprehensive benefits package is available, including paid time off, parental leave, medical, dental, vision, life, disability, AD&D insurance, 401(k) or RRSP/DPSP, and other applicable benefits to eligible employees.
