Job Summary And Qualifications

The Consulting Application Engineer / Technical Lead will architect, design, develop, maintain, and test software for the Concuity team, with primary responsibility for backend Java services and the calculation and business-rule logic that powers the application. This is a hands‑on full stack engineering role with a strong backend concentration. The Consulting Application Engineer will partner closely with business stakeholders, product owners, onshore engineers, and offshore development teams to translate complex domain requirements into reliable, scalable, and maintainable application solutions in a dynamic Agile environment.

The Consulting Application Engineer must be able to rapidly acquire deep subject matter and domain expertise and use that knowledge to guide technical design and implementation decisions. This position requires advanced expertise in Java and SQL, strong experience with GCP and PostgreSQL architecture, and working knowledge of Oracle, EXTJS, React, and Angular. This role will serve as the team's primary application architect, establishing technical direction, facilitating design decisions, leading complex development work, mentoring engineers, and ensuring solutions meet business, performance, security, scalability, and supportability needs.

Major Responsibilities
  • Own the technical architecture and engineering direction for the application, with particular emphasis on backend Java services, calculation engines, business rules, APIs, data access, and integration patterns.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain full stack application capabilities using Java, EXTJS, React, Angular, SQL, and related technologies, while maintaining a primary concentration on backend development.
  • Lead the design and implementation of complex calculation logic, ensuring business rules are accurate, traceable, testable, performant, and maintainable.
  • Rapidly develop deep domain and application knowledge and become a trusted technical subject matter expert who can connect business requirements to system behavior and architecture.
  • Partner directly with business stakeholders and product owners to clarify requirements, challenge assumptions constructively, identify edge cases, and translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Architect solutions across GCP, PostgreSQL, Oracle, application services, and user-interface layers; establish appropriate patterns for scalability, reliability, observability, security, and maintainability.
  • Provide hands‑on technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle, including solution design, coding, code reviews, testing strategy, deployment planning, production support, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and facilitate technical design sessions, decomposition of complex initiatives, estimation, sequencing, and resolution of cross‑team dependencies.
  • Provide clear technical direction to onshore and offshore engineering teams; communicate requirements and architecture effectively, remove technical blockers, and ensure consistent engineering quality across locations.
  • Mentor developers and raise the technical capability of the team through coaching, design guidance, code reviews, reusable patterns, and engineering standards.
  • Analyze existing systems and calculation processes to identify opportunities for modernization, simplification, performance improvement, and reduction of technical debt.
  • Ensure application performance and scalability through effective SQL design, database tuning, service optimization, batch‑process design, monitoring, and root‑cause analysis.
  • Identify technical risks, architectural gaps, data‑quality concerns, and product‑quality issues early; develop practical mitigation strategies and drive issues through resolution.
  • Document application architecture, technical decisions, data flows, interfaces, calculation logic, operational procedures, and support activities for corporate systems architecture.
  • Provide advanced production support and technical troubleshooting for critical application issues, including collaboration across business, infrastructure, database, and engineering teams.
