NHS Highland is seeking a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist for Kintyre, Islay and Jura. The post focuses on outpatient work within a multi-disciplinary team with occasional inpatient liaison in the local ward.

The role offers 32 hours per week (8 programmed activities) with a pro rata salary range of £111,430 to £148,064 per annum. Applicants must be GMC registered with Licence to Practice or within 6 months of CCT at interview.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultant leadership within the community mental health team and collaborate with multi-disciplinary colleagues, crisis teams, social work and voluntary organisations to deliver comprehensive care.
  • Undertake Recruitment Medical Officer (RMO) responsibilities for patients managed under the Mental Health Act and perform domiciliary visits, Mental Health Act/Adults Incapacity work and associated legal tasks.
  • Work with consultant colleagues, GPs and local services to contribute to strategic development and ongoing improvement of the local mental health service.

£111,430 - £148,064 per annum pro rataThis General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist post is based at the beautiful rural areas of Kintyre, Islay and Jura. The post holder is responsible for outpatient working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with one session in reach to the local Inpatient ward to oversee admitted locality patients.

The Community Mental Health Team comprises psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, psychology and social work services. In-patient beds are based at Succoth Ward, Mid Argyll Community Hospital, Lochgilphead.

It is expected that the successful applicant would provide consultant leadership within the community mental health team, working closely with the multi-disciplinary teams as well as crisis team, social work and voluntary organisations to provide a comprehensive service. They will undertake RMO responsibilities for their patients managed under the Mental Health Act and undertake domiciliary visits, Mental Health Act / Adults Incapacity and legal work for the patients on their caseload. They will be expected to work closely with consultant colleagues within the area, general practitioners, third sector and other teams. There is also an expectation that the postholder will contribute to strategic development and ongoing development of the local service.

The post is for 8 programmed activities (sessions) per week (6.5: 1:5 DCC:SPA) and the post holder will be welcomed into a friendly and forward thinking team of consultants where peer support is valued and protected.

There will be an opportunity work with a combination of remote access to the multi-disciplinary teams which operate in each locality and domiciliary visits when required. There is an active local academic programme. Junior support is provided depending on trainee rotations.
