Job summary

AC Disaster Consulting, a leader in emergency management, is seeking a Consultant, Planning to support EM planning projects, including emergency operations plans and continuity of operations plans. The role is remote with onsite work and deployment possible, and is non-exempt, regular, hourly, full-time or part-time.

The successful candidate will assist with client-facing projects, develop and maintain plans, and coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies.

Mission of Role/Position Summary

Position provides direct client support for EM Planning projects such as emergency operations plans, continuity of operations plans, emergency management program assessments, exercise development, after action reports, and other duties as assigned in the emergency planning space. Position plays a crucial role in developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive emergency management plans to ensure the safety and resilience of our organization and the community. Position reports to the Senior Emergency Management Planner II in the Planning and Risk Reduction Division and assists with client-facing projects.

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

Departmental Specific -
  • Support the development and maintenance of emergency management plans, policies, and procedures in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Support hazard mitigation, climate adaptation, and resilience plan development.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify vulnerabilities and develop mitigation strategies
  • Support effective client partnerships with local, state, and federal emergency management agencies, as well as community organizations, to facilitate coordinated response efforts
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal departments to integrate emergency management plans into overall organizational strategies
  • Develop and implement training programs for client staff and emergency response teams to ensure they are well-prepared to execute emergency plans effectively
  • Coordinate and conduct emergency response drills and exercises to evaluate the client organization's readiness and identify areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify and secure necessary resources for emergency response, including personnel, equipment, and facilities
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of emergency resources and ensure they are in compliance with regulatory standards
  • Periodically support client projects onsite and deploy to client sites to support staff augmentation roles during disasters
  • Present on topics at industry conferences based on subject-matter expertise
  • Assist with client-facing emergency management planning and preparedness projects
  • Support the development of tools and resources to support efficient project execution
  • Perform other duties as assigned
General -
  • Support operation functions within your primary focus area of emergency management, which may include leading portions of project tasks. Gain experience in other emergency management areas as opportunities arise for exposure. Provide direct client support and deliverables with supervision as appropriate. Develop a client relations skillset utilizing your knowledge of principals of the emergency management framework. Engage in opportunities with mentors and senior level consultants to diversify and build upon existing capabilities
  • Provide support for specific portions of projects, helping to ensure all aspects are completed as outlined according to the timeline as assigned. Lead portions of smaller projects and assist on larger project tasks, while developing delegation skills and participating in client engagement opportunities. Develop deeper knowledge of project operations, while building organizational skills. Meet personnel allocation and utilization targets
  • Attend and participate in all individual and group assigned and scheduled meetings and events. Respond and engage in other company communications as appropriate. Engage in client engagement opportunities at conferences and networking events. Attend information sessions and present or engage as requested. Develop knowledge of company client engagement practices
  • Expand upon knowledge of company services and contracts. Support at events/conferences. Shadow in on business development meetings and opportunities. Increase knowledge and get hands on experience with different firm capabilities, teaming partners and competition. Begin to identify potential opportunities for ACDC to expand on current client contracts or enter into new contracts. Speak at conferences and industry events. Share with leadership any information or leads for additional business opportunities
  • Attend and participate in all assigned job-related training opportunities. Assist with preparing client training events, information sessions, and materials
  • Use knowledge and best practices to consult on decisions of portions of project tasks and individual work assigned. Seek guidance and support from leadership on task priorities according to business and client needs
  • Develop currency of and compliance with applicable state and federal policies, procedures, and guidance documents. Participate in opportunities for additional experience and become knowledgeable in one or more additional areas of Emergency Management, striving for expert level knowledge in at least one specialized area. Maintain/pursue knowledge, credentials, and career development opportunities
  • Participate actively in strategic growth efforts by supporting proposal development, client presentations, and market analysis. Begin to identify potential growth opportunities within existing projects and contribute ideas for service enhancements
  • Take initiative in small team activities and mentor junior staff informally. Lead discrete tasks or components of projects. Build confidence in decision-making and problem-solving within defined parameters

Expected Hours of Work

Schedule may vary. Work on evenings and weekends may be required. Dependability and punctuality are paramount.

Travel Requirements
  • Up to 50% travel is expected for this position
  • Must be willing to travel and deploy to client sites for extended periods of time
Physical Demands
  • Mobility required on-site with clients
  • Sitting or standing for hours at a time
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time if needed
  • Ability to manipulate up to 25 lbs. repetitively throughout the day and as needed
Working Environment
  • Emergency management personnel may work in an office or home environment or be deployed to the field which may require working outdoors in adverse weather conditions
  • Work may be on-site with clients ex: EOC, hospital, debris sites or local government buildings
  • All AC Disaster Consulting (ACDC) positions are remote work site positions with the home location agreed upon at time of hire
  • If the remote work site locations change, ACDC Human Resources must be made aware, and leadership needs to approve any site changes for business registration and payroll tax purposes
